Emergency trunk latch...

This is what I get for not reading or using my head. So I open the trunk of my G35, and notice the green latch on the inside cover. Thinking that's there for you to pull on it to close down the trunk, I do it and then I hear this crack. I let go of the latch and now the cable doesn't fully retract, but then again, I don't know if it's suppose to.

I can push it back into place and snap back into its hook and it does stay... but I wonder if I've broken something since it does not retract fully?

Any opinions on whether or not the latch works now? I tried to convince my wife to get into the trunk and try to free herself out... but she's not going for it... so I figured I'd ask here (Ok Ok, so I also wanted to leave her there a while, but I would've let her out )

So, any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

HAHA...That's funny about locking your wife in the trunk. Well in regards to the emergency trunk release, I think you broke it. Especially after hearing a cracking noise. It's suppose to retract after letting go. Definitely go back to the dealer and tell him that you tested it but noticed it didn't retract. Hopefully the dealer will cover it under warranty

LOL, funny .....did she ask you to go in there instead?

You may have broken it, but from memory, it either clips back into a clasp or velcros back in place.
If it is broken, the dealer should have a quick fix for you. No biggie.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to try that... but what is there to it? Just pull on the latch and I should be able to push the door open? And If not, I assume then that I did break it, right?

Thanks!

In the coupe, the rear seatback releases are in the trunk too. It wouldn't be hard to find one of those to get into the car.

Take the fob with you and use the fob if it doesn't open.
