trunk release?

I have an 04 coupe and it seems that when I press the trunk relese it barely opens (almost just unlatches) is this normal? Most cars I've had in the past when the release button is pressed the trunk will go up half way at least.

I am just thinking that it may be a problem with my trunk shocks/supports.

One other observation is that when it is very cold outside it's almost like there is no resistance at all when the trunk opens or closes (like there is no pressure in the trunk struts).

Any info would be appreciated.

FYI,
I also have an 04 coupe (6mt), and when I press the trunk release, it also barely opens. (almost just unlatches, just like you say).

I've also been wondering if its normal or not, but it sounds like maybe thats just the way it is.

Sounds normal, on my 03.5 the trunk opens just enough to slide my fingers in the gap and lift the lid. Personally I like it, if I accidentally pop the trunk it's not obvious to strangers.

I'm assuming it's normal cuz that's the way it is on my 05'. If you wanted it to pop half way, you could always replace the tension of the springs.
