dealer recommends 5w 15 synthetic

well I made the switch over to synthetic but not the one the dealer recommended me, I figured I would go with 5W30 not sure why the dealer told me I should go with 5W15.

Anyone else get that recommendation from the dealership?

My car has about 28k now and not sure what the previous owners been using for oil but when I bought the car I know the dealer put in regular oil which is not good enough for me.

That sounds right. I would never change the top number. I go with 5w30 in
the winter to help with the cold oil viscosity. But a warm engine is a warm engine no matter what the season.
Good call!

Stay with the manual...maybe that tech you talked to happened to fail mechanic school but got through somehow

It's most likely the previous owner used what is recommended by Nissan: (5W30), so you made the right move to keep using it. (Dino or synth. isn't important.....thickness or weight is.) I'm surprised the dealer told you to use 5W15!

I've never heard of anyone else getting that suggestion.

C.

no kidding.. what was the dealer thinking.. I was suprised I had to keep confirming him, and keep reminding him this is for a G35, don't know what the hell he was thinking... if I did go with that would it cause me problems down the road... hmmm...
