Unhappy Curbed My G

Hey guys, bad news here. i accidently curbed my G on the way to class today. I fell asleep this afternoon while i was studying and woke up about 15 mins before my class started (7:00 PM class), so i was really tired and in a hurry. As i'm driving to school, theres this right turn i always take as i come off of a 2 lane rode onto a 1 lane 2 way road. it was pretty dark out and there were a bunch of cars coming towards me on the 2 way road so i had to make a very sharp turn in order to avoid the oncoming cars. i managed to clear my front right wheel, but then i heard and felt sudden bump, and i was like O ***t and i automatically knew what happened. after i parked, i got out and checked the wheel. i felt the scrape around the wheel. it's at the very edge of the rim right where the tired meets the wheel. it's not very noticeable, but it's bad if you know where it is. it's very similar to this member's wheel damage. DRAGMODE.

If anyone has any info on where in Houston i can get this fixed that would be great. i saw another member that recently did the same thing and got his fixed at the dealer for $75. i think they called in a guy that specializes in wheel repair so i'm gonna call my dealer tomorrow and see if they can help me out. maybe they can either fix it or refer me to shop that can.

I'll try to get some pics up later.

Sucks you curbed it....

I've done it also though (same exact as that picture). After a week, I totally forgot about it. I've totally forgtten now except when I read posts like this :-).

My recommendation, wait a month. If it still annoys you, then fix it.....

I looked around too, most places will fix that kind of damage for ~100-200. Some say they'll do it with the tire on (not sure I beleive that). Talked to some people that had it done and it took the wheel people a week to do it. Not sure riding on the donut a week is worth it.

Sorry, don't know any place in houston. Good luck.

me too

I was in a hurry to get to a super bowl party in Rutheford, NJ and curbed the front passenger when I was parking. I have the 2005 19" wheels. Its not that bad. Not even noticeable unless your looking for it but would love to know if there is any way to fix it.

Alright, here's the deal. I went to my dealer today and talked to my salesman about the wheel. He said they do have a guy that comes in a couple days a week to do wheel repairs, but they're asking $175. They will grind down the wheel, polish it and then repaint it. I wasn't expecting it to be so expensive because i heard of another member that had the same situation and the dealer only charged him $75.

He then told me of another place, fairly close to the dealership. He had taken his BMW there after his wife curbed it and he said he only paid $98. I was very happy to hear this and he gave me directions for the shop. The only problem he said was that they will probably have trouble matching the paint on the wheels. After class, i went to this shop that my salesguy told me and talked to the guy. I told him that my Infiniti salesman referred me to their shop and that he only paid $98. The shop worker said that was only a special price they give to people that work for the dealership. The standard charge was about $130 plus another fee for paint i think which pretty much comes out to $170.

He told me to pull my car up into the garage so they could check out the damage. After looking at it, he talked to one of the workers and then told me they could do another process that would be much cheaper. Instead of the standard $130 which includes painting the entire wheel after the wheel fix, he offered to just smooth out the damaged area, manchine it, and then paint out from the inside of the rim which he would only charge $95. I was glad to hear this because i really didn't want them to paint my entire wheel because of the color matching problem. He said it takes about 1 day, bring it in the morning and pick it up the next. I might take your advice on it and wait a month because it is very minor so i gotta think about it.

O I tried to ask the guy exactly what the machining process was, but i'm not familiar with it so i didn't understand. If someone could explain that would be great.

The shop also can paint and polish my wheels too, but that I can wait on. I was thinking of painting the inner spokes black and leaving the lip plain later on down the road.

I agree with the post way above. Wait a month, if it still bugs you, then go into fix it. I did it to mine and it bothered me for a few days, but then I figured it's really not that big a deal... and it will probably happen again. For $170 it's really not worth fixing...

Sabs

Take it to SABS. The owner is Art. super cool dude. SW infiniti takes their wheels to get redone over there. He can match the paint near perfect, if not perfect.

Good Luck.
