New owner, few problems/questions

Hey everyone, me and my wife just purchased our 2003 DG 5AT coupe with 25k on the clock. Must say that this forum really influenced our purchase. Couple of problems though...

First, the darn car smells like rotten eggs when driven hard from the get go up to about 60 or 70. Any ideas what that could be? It seems to follow the car for a while too, really embarassing.

Second, this thing does not seem like it wants to hook up. With vdc on, on dry ground it seems to just spin and the rear ends gets a little loose, and when I hit second it "jumps" or bounces as it fights for traction, I imagine this is due to the fact that it still has the stock POS tires on it (or I am assuming they are stock, Michelin Pilot of some sort, all the used cars on the lot had them), but just thought I would check to see if that was normal.

Any ideas/comments are much appreciated, thanks!

1st off Congrats on your Purchase!!

I have no clue what you are smelling?? I had a small smell when I first got my car but I bought mine brand new and I was told it was the shipping greases burning off.

What do you mean by "spin"? And how is the rear end getting loose? Are you going around a turn at all? The "G" is a bit tail happy and you can definately feel the VDC kicking in when it does happen. You will feel it jerking, bouncing, or "jump" as you call it. You will also see the "slip" light come on in the center instrument cluster.

Get used to the car and let the car get used to you as well

Congrats again and welcome to the board!!!

Rotten egg smell generally an indication of bad catalytic converter. May want to have that checked out.

Rotten egg smell is usually the catalytic converter.

As for the spinning take a look at the tire threads see if there is anything left.

As far as the tire spin, some spin is normal for a high hp RWD car with all season tires particularly when its cold out. I would check the tread wear also, but if its cold where you live its most likely weather related. Its also possible you are driving on summer tires in the winter months which cause massive tire spin in colder climates (rubber gets too hard). Assuming you live in a cold climate you might want to invest in winter tires.

If it’s warm out and your still having traction problems its probably just a set of bad tires...
