Grinding noise 6th or 7th time already - HELP
Are all of you guys 6MT owners? I'm guessing its just normal clutch chatter. I've experienced an odd grinding type noise on cold mornings too. Doesn't happen often, perhaps once a month or so. But I've heard it enough that it sounds very much like a lighter version of when you shut down the car without pressing the clutch.
Now you guys are probably thinking... you have to press the clutch to start the car. Now I'm not an expert with transmissions or anything, but something in there has to start spinning up regardless if the clutch is engaged or not. My reasoning is that on cold mornings, whatever it is that starts spinning up (I'm guessing the flywheel) just chatters a bit. Which would certainly explain why it is a lot quieter than the shutdown noise if the clutch is engaged.

i have that same problem in an 06MT. i already posted a thread a while back. it makes that grinding noise when u put it in first and drive off after the car has been turned off.
edit:i just called the dealership and they said its the ABS system checking itself. its normal. its just aggravating.
