I was wondering, where did everyone hear that you can go 7,500 on synthetic? I used Castrol Syntec for the first time and haven't been able to find any kinds of claims.

No oil company wants to assume liability for the cost of a lubrication-related engine failure (e.g., spun bearing, worn rings, etc.) because you believed and relied on their promise that you could safely extend your change interval. In the early days of Mobil 1 they bandied about claims of vastly extended change intervals, but the automakers squawked loud and long and such assertions were soon curtailed. For the last decade or so virtually every synthetic manufacturer seem to have couched any mention of extended change intervals with the proviso, "Be sure to follow the auto manufacturer's recommendation regarding oil change interval."

Well then I'm just going to take the safe way out. I just used sythetic for the first time, so I'm going to change after 3,000 (since there's still conventional in there). Depending on what I see pour out of there, I'll decide how often to change.

Wow, I am still skeptical of the 5k+ miles oil changes.

My previous car was a 04 bmw 3 series which I bought it brand new and the manual states 15k mile before the next oil change. They use Castrol Synthetic. Funny thing was, when I sold the car , they buyer ask me for any service(oil change) reciepts. I said no never done any oil change, and the guy face just drop. THen I showed him the manual and he understood. I sold it 13k miles.

Like the majority of people in this post, 5K oil changes is good for me as well, I also run into alot of stop and go traffic, dusty roads, and bad climate so it personally makes me feel better running on fresh synthetic every 5K.

I am about to swap to Mobile 1 full synthetic 5W-30 at 10,000 miles. I should be fine just sticking with the factory oil filter correct? No need to buy a different one?

As long as you use a good oil filter like Mobil-1 or what I preferred AMS - I would change it every 7.5K or 6mo. whatever comes first.

same here, for 20 years with Mobil 1. Plus if you use this schedule it is very easy to monitor and adhere to (i.e. change at 10,000 miles, then 15,000 miles, etc.)
