Ok need help members. what would you do?

Looking to sell my G coupe (2003 6MT 30K miles, like new shape). I took all the mods off it, put the OEM stuff back on (except for the springs/sway bars), and took it to Carmax last night cause I'm getting a new car. They offered $24K on the spot, the offers good for 7 days/300 miles. I really wanted $25,500 minimum but not sure if its worth bickering over $1500. I know the dealer prob won't give me that for a trade in (or will they?) so what should I do? Wait around and try to sell it to a private party or take Carmax's offer and run?

If it were me, I'd find out what she's worth on a trade, since you're getting a new ride.
The offer you got sounds low, but can't tell since you're in U.S.

Is there a tax consideration on trades there too? I know there is here, and on that much $$$$, the saving is $3600 CAD!

Kelly Blue Book trade in value, in excellent condition is $24,675. That is with Bose, nav, rear spoiler, and premium wheels.
Their offer doesn't sound that bad, especially for Carmax.

I got my 2003 coupe 6mt fultl loaded but no navi with 36k miles on it for $23k flat. So their offer sounds about right. You can definetly get at least $25,000 on a private sale if you have the patience for it. Post it up on Autotrader or something man

Might want to try shopping around at different dealerships. We traded my wife's 03 5AT Coupe in for an FX35 last August, and the dealer gave us 25K as a trade-in value, plus sold the FX to us for $500 over invoice. She had about 30K on it when we traded it.

Of course it probably depends on how well you know the dealer. The FX was our third purchase from that particular dealer, and we ordered the completely macked out version of the FX, so they had incentive to hook us up.

Keep in mind when you sell a 25k car the tax break from the trade-in is significant... Its a new model year so the 03's have taken another hit... I would say it depends on how good of a deal you can get through the dealer for your new car...

^^ I'm getting an 06 Lexus IS350. The dealer is selling me the car with a premium pack ($39K) for the price of their base model ($36K) so I'm going to make out ok. Just hate to see my G baby go for $24K. Then again I have all the mods off to sell later on so who knows....

Other car manufacturers (Lexus) won't give you the best trade in price. First of all they have to see if there's a demanding market for your car. Since G35's seem like a dime a dozen now, the demand's not as high as before. Next Lexus will see if a Infiniti dealer will buy it. Most likely yes but they'll lowball Lexus to make some money off your car. So to answer your question, yes Carmax is the best place to sell your car but it doesn't hurt to ask for an extra $500 on the deal.

What aftermarket parts you got? PM me

Have you test driven the new IS? I mean literally take it on the tracks and beat the **** to the ground. That car can handle better than the G

There's no tax benefit from a trade. The dealer computes sales tax on the value of the new car and then subtracts the trade in value from that total. I haven't looked at this in detail for a few years, but I doubt that any state today deducts the trade in value from the new car value and then applies sales tax to the difference. The state wants the money.
