hmm if you want to maintain the G's qualities, then i would suggest:

2pc rotors all around
dry carbon trunk/hood
ti exhaust
lightweight wheels
remove spare and misc tools

all of the above can be done and if anything, improve the car.
if you want to strip the interior, have fun.. skys the limit on what you can take out.

do like the VW gti commercial....don't ride the GF because you don't want the excessive weight.

That and let the air out of the tires....

This issue has always come down to a balancing act between your goals. I'm going to assume that you don't want a gutted car without even factory sound-deadening material in place.

Front seats are heavy... ...the rear is a block of foam. Replace those fronts with matching upholstered racing seats.

Wheels/tires, brake assemblies, spare/tools and exhaust as mentioned.

Hood and trunk are already light.

And, of course, you'd be better off if starting with a hardtop, no nav., no premium coupe. That's why I ordered and waited for delivery.

Braille battery 11 lbs. - OEM battery 45 lbs. save over 30 lbs.
Spare 45 lbs. (more if you take out jack and tools)
Light weight rims/tires - as much as 5 lbs. per wheel(depending on what you got right now)
Ti exhaust - as much as 50 lbs.
kinetix intake plenum- 10lbs.
Headers -5 to 10lbs.
Light weight fly wheel -10 to 15lbs.
Cat deletes -? maybe 5 to 10 lbs.

So I think that's as much as 190lbs. without touching interior, creature comforts, or safety items.
It's probably closer to 150lbs.(I'm guessing on some of the above numbers), but that's a lot.

Weight difference between base and premium coupes

Hello GT-Ron,
I was looking for a used base 2005 6MT but I came across a premium g35 with aero package for only $29700. So I had to take advantage of this deal.

What is the weight difference between these two trim models?

It's hard to tell, as I believe the curb-weight stated is for a base model. Not sure how much Nav, Prem. & sunroof add to that. We should compare GVW or something on the door-jamb sticker. Not sure how you translate that into curb-weight, which we'll all better identify with.

smaller wheels, no seats, carbon fiber hood and trunk ac (gone), airbags (gone), cf both doors with plxiglass (keep the beams), loose the spare tire, get rid of carpet, ti exhaust, no headlights, plexigalss the windows (all of them), loose the radio and glove, fill the tires with helium, and go on a crash diet!

that should save you about 300 lbs and more.... depending on your diet.....

plexiglass will actually save you a ton of weight, do the side, sunroof and rear will give you huge weight savings along with replacing the front seats, losing the spare, tools and don't forget to keep your gas tank not too full. 10 gallons of gasoline weights A LOT!.

Good start. I always noticed that makes a big difference when I accelerated. I had 15''rota slipstreams which weighed nothing on my old car and would switch it to 17's and wow what a difference. I also noticed lighter flywheel helps acceleration. Makes sense.

These are all good things to do since you are not really taking away the luxuriness you paid for.

Can you get plexiglass windshields that have that laminent on them? If not I'd stay away from those in case they shatter, but the side windows definitely. Also, if you can find a replacement lightweight manual pushback system for the sunroof, taking weight from the top of the car will be more valuable, obviously.

Best answer yet. Maybe suspension and brakes can shave some weight as well?

The only substantial weight difference between a premium and a non-premium car is the sunroof, which is only 30-40lbs. Granted the roof is the worst place to carry extra weight, but still the difference is marginal because the base model already comes with xenons, power and heated seats, 6CD changer and other features which add weight to a truly base car. The dual zone A/C and power tilt probably add a few extra pounds to the premium package, but the sunroof is the main difference.
