Don't you find that in NJ, if it takes you more than .003 seconds to start rolling at the green that the **** ants in back of you start blowing their horns?Originally Posted by paulktran

What I like best is when some jerk pulls up to within 1" of my rear bumper when I'm stopped for a traffic light on a steep hill.
An Army of One...
I only keep the clutch in on hills.. or does any one stay in 1st gear and roll back and forth? (on hills)

im in N while at a stop if more than 5 seconds.
starting from a hill, i heel and toe and drive off. no need for e-brake.
the only time i use e-brake from a stop is when backing out of a parking
spot with an incline.

Isn't that extremely bad for the clutch? I mean, you're basically sitting there riding the clutch while you feather the gas for a minute or so while you're waiting for the light to change. I dunno though, I'm still trying to figure out what's good and bad for the clutch. I've been driving stick for years, but this is the first MT I've owned...

uhh yeah some people do. those people who think it's really cool to show everyone that theyre driving a stick shift. That's a horrible thing to do on the car and puts much unnecessary wear on the clutch. your practically slipping the clutch non stop for wahtever duration of time youre doing it forOriginally Posted by Real_G

hmm.. I thought the e-brake thing was just one of those things that they teach you to do but nobody really ever actually does it.. You know, similar to driving with hands at 10 and 2 or something, i mean i DO drive there but many people just drive with one hand on top of the wheel and things like that.

doesnt it ruin teh clutch when u leave it down and in gear?
Not the clutch, but the throwout bearing...Originally Posted by LIUser

The rule is 10 seconds, you should never hold the clucth down for more than 10 seconds; if you think the stop will take longer you should put the trans in neutral.

For all of the past 30 years, while at prolonged stops, I have always had my cars in Neutral with the clutch pedal up.
