Because if it doesn't matter why spend the extra $2000 over 4 years in my case?

I have never put anything but regular in mine and it runs great. I will use the extra $2k for the down on my next one.

 

I've always use 91, I've seen a gas station with 92 and 110 but never 93 or 95. I live in Orange City, right next to the block of Orange, can someone please point out some gas stations with 93 and/or 95 there? How much are octane boosters?

I am stunned that people put anything but Premium in their G. I guess being with a car freak for nearly 5 years, he has taught me that cheap gas is exactly that - CHEAP GAS! It causes carbon build up on the inside of your motor, But to each his own i guess, and BTW good luck with your engine.

 

When I lived in Cali, I also never saw 93 or 95, just 91/92 or racing fuel (local laws/regulations?). Now that I am in IL, though, premium is 93 and 91 is nowhere to be found--no complaints from me...I guess you could always fill your tank w/ like 1/3 100 and 2/3 91?

 

+1 ... i mean if you can afford this car you can afford to put in like 20 cents more a gallon.

 

think about it. How much are you gonna save putting 87 instead of 91. 2-3 dollars and make your car go slower? is it really worth 3 dollars? I would stick to 91

 

Hey man, if you wanna put in the cheap stuff to save a few bucks, by all means do it. I've never heard of an engine blowing up because of 87 octane. Especially if you're just going to sell it in 4 years. That's why I prefer to buy new cars. And for people who come back with "your car will be slower", do you really think the guys that try to save 2 jr. bacon cheeseburgers a tank are the ones going WOT from every stop light? Seriously. They're the guys driving 5AT's, going 65 in the fast lane, with brake dust all over their rims. I'm sure they never press the GO pedal down far enough to notice the difference. Every car enthusiast I know puts premium in everything, even if it IS a civic.

For the record, nothing but 91 goes in mine, I must say I miss the 93 octane in Chicago. Then I definitely saw a difference in performance and mileage, even in my 4-banger cavalier. I'm not about to put a tank of 87 in just to see if there's a difference...

 

Then why dont you just get a Civic oh wait, neon would be a better for you since you could save all the money u want, and they both give u twice the better milege as the G. Start saving up for the Neon or a civic and let us know how it turns out..

I've seen only one gas station in So Cal that has 93. . . and that was in San Marino. No luck out here in the OC tho, 91 is the highest. . . =\

 

$2K extra over 4 years? So... $500 extra per year means around $42 extra per month. At $0.30 extra per gallon that means you're using 140 gallons per month. If you get 15mpg that means you're driving over 25,000 miles each year ? Maybe you do drive that much, I don't know -- if you are then the savings might be worth it.

For me it isn't. Premium (in my city) costs $0.20 more than regular. I fill my tank about three times per month, at around 16 gallons per tank, so that's $3.20 extra per fill-up. 36 tanks per year (around 9500 miles) means I pay around $115 more in a year, which isn't much compared to my $35000 car.
