I stand corrected. I meant to say that I heard that the recall affects the '04 that was built in '03

The only complaints I've heard about the fuel filler hose is the pressure return portion of it not working properly so that people try to fill up and the pump keeps shutting off every few seconds due to a lack of pressure being returned into the fuel pump.

I'm pretty sure there's already a TSB to cover that though, although it's not a recall.

+1
That's happened to me every once in a blue moon.

They had this same recall on the 3rd generation Nissan Maximas (1989 - 1994). I'm surprised they made the same mistake again. I wonder how serious a problem it really is or if anything has actually happened as a result of the design defect.

Master Tech's only

Just FYI , as sales representatives we were told that only Master Technicians would be performing the work on this service campaign. It's also important to note that this is a "Pro-active" campaign. No one has actually had a problem yet. It was determined by a computer model that a problem could exist and rather than sit back and wait for it to maybe happen or maybe not, Infiniti decided it was better to spend the money and err on the side of caution.

If I were you guys I'd take it in later if you can. After they've done enough of these recalls they will have the teardown/rebuild down to a science. Its best to wait a little while.

For me, the issue is I have absolutely 0 confidence in my dealership to do it properly, even after 1000x installs

Remember the first recall - something to do with the brake lights or rear lights turning off - I had it done and they ****ed up my trunk and denied liability. Turned to ICA, they denied liability and told me to either sue or live with it or pay damages out of my pocket.

Brought my car in for regular service, came out with paint/body damage. I complained again, same result.

I can just see what would happen if I brought it in for this and they ****ed something up like the drivetrain - 'sorry sir, it's not our fault, either pay us $4000 to fix it for f_uck off'

I can vouch for that. I just phoned my friend 10minutes ago (don't know why I didn't think of that before ^_^ ) and he basically said what you said - it's the result of 1 computer simulation, 0 incidents, unknown severity.

When I took my car in this morning, the dealer said they have done quite a few of these recall fuel hose replacements already. I just got a call this afternoon that my car was done. The dealer did not give me any hassles over aftermarket exhaust, suspension, etc. I'll update if there are any surprises when I pick the car up this evening.

I am hesitant on the amount of labor involved, but I believe in better safe than sorry, so I'll probably end up doing this, IF my car is part of this recall.

*Edit* I just checked and I'm not, so guess I don't have to worry about this

That sure is a lot of work to remove and replace the fuel tank. And the techs are only allowed 2.1 hours for the job.
