Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
how much of a difference is there between the Brembos and the brakes on the auto g35c. is there really that much improvement?

Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
yeah, there is a difference in stopping power and high-speed braking fade-resistance
I cant pull out the #'s right now, since i havent seen any magazine reviews of the Auto, my estimate is at least 5 ft better stop distance from 70mph to 0.....that 5 feet could save you from running into somebody
STATS:
Brake rotor dimensions
Standard 11.65" x 0.94" ventilated front rotors/11.50" x 0.63" ventilated rear rotors
Brembo® 12.76" x 1.18" ventilated front rotors/13.07" x 0.87" ventilated rear rotors

Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
can you get the brembos put on to an AT or is it better to just get some different aftermarket ones

Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
There is a little more than what our G35FANATIC said. The base brakes are single piston sliding calipers. There are additional issues because the calipers shift as the pistons move. It is not unusual for brake pads to wear unevenly with more wear on the top, bottom, leading or trailing edges. Warpage is also a lot more common bacause the calipers can shift as they travel around the rotor.
The Brembos on the other hand are larger diameter for more area for the pad to travel around. Being wider, they have wider vents for more cooling. But, most important they have fixed calipers from and rear. Only the caliper pistons move, so there is no walking of the caliper and much greater resistance to warpage.
To give you an idea of how much of a difference this makes on the track, I have a friend who has a big single MKIV Supra. Back when he was a BPU, he had no problem running the car all day at the track with the stock 4-piston front and 2-piston rear brakes. Before going to the big single, he put on a set of AP 6-piston brakes and never had a problem. He just got an 04' Z06. His very first day to the track, he warped all the rotors and they are being replaced under warranty. The Z06 has 2-piston floating calipers in the front and single piston floating calipers in back. Despite all the magazines being impressive with the braking distances, they couldn't handle a single track day.
Keep in mind though that these aren't going to be factors for the people who just drive day to day. If you are doing track days or regular autocrossing, then this will not be an issue. If you are just commuting and a leasurely pace all the time, all those big brakes are something attractive to look at. That 5 feet from 70 is far less than the difference in reaction times between drivers. For me it is a much bigger concern when the V1 goes off at 120 and I have to slow down quickly. Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
Is it confirmed that there is a difference in barking distance? The Brembos should only help stopping distance in high-heat situations, but under normal braking, I don't see any reason why they would provide better stopping distances (and I say this as having the brembos myself).
As I understand it the Brembos are only superior under repeated heavy braking (less prone to overheating) and may provide better fade resistance. But hey, even those aside, I'd take the Brembos in a heartbeat just for those badass looking calipers).

well Mani the reason i put up that 5ft # is because of the larger rotor and caliper size of the Brembos...bigger = more friction = faster stopping distance
Loren- good informative post, i hear you on the V1 deal

Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
i remember seeing somthing like this were they had the 2 breaking distances and Rambo is close but if i remeber corectly it was less then 5 like maye 3 feet or somthing but they found that after 2 hard stops the auto breaks faded while the brembos were able to do more hard stops.
Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
i currently have the 5at but i'm thinking about trading up for the 2004 6sp. is there a big difference in price when replacing the brakes between the at and brembos brakes? i've read that the brembos cost quite a bit to replace...but in those cases, the dealer quotes were replacing the rotors as well which don't make sense unless they're warped. which brings up another point, why do we need to change the oil filter every 3months or 3,000 miles? i always thought that you change the oil filter every other oil change at the earliest...but then again i'm no mechanic and not an expert but it just seems weird to me.

Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
The Bmrembo rotors are bigger and wider, the pads are bigger, and the rotors have better ventilation. But it's okay because the G35C 5AT with the regular brakes stop from 60mph to 0mph in 122 feet, which is 4 feet shorter than the BMW 330i, which is a superb rating. Both brakes are awesome, but the Brembos are just better.
Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
I talked to my dealer and they said I need to replace my rotors.I asked to re-serface my rotors and they said that the rotors are too thin to begin with and they could try it,but it seems there wont be enough serface to take off to fix the glase.I was wondering if anyone has reserfaced their rotors yet.I chose these brakes because of the turning radius,I'd like to keep them stock for a while to save money since my Volks are coming soon.Any info on upgrading rotors and painting the stock calipers?I do drive hard, but no auto-Xing.thanks for the help!
Re: Brembos vs g35c Auto Brakes
Rambo, I know I'm resurrecting a somewhat old thread but just found this response. Larger brakes do not stop you faster due to more friction...both have enough friction to lock the wheels if you slam on the brakes. The major advantage to larger brakes is better heat dissapation and thus better performance under heavy (high heat) braking. I think larger brakes like the brembos may be designed for better braking modulation for optimal stopping distances but I don't think more friction translates directly to shorter stops.
