Valentine One install -- Switched hot in overhead?
Heya,
For my V1 radar locator installation, I'd like to get power to the unit from the overhead console somewhere. It appears easy to fit a wire between the headliner and the windshield, but I don't know exactly where to look, and want to minimize exploring if possible.
Has anyone located a switched hot-lead up there yet?

Spend the extra money for the remote display. It's worth the money and then some. You can then get them both power by hardwiring into the cig lighter.

Re: Valentine One install -- Switched hot in overhead?
Thanks for the info. I reviewed both the V1 and Colonel's post, and went to check out the removal of the overhead light panel.
On my car at least, the interior light panel seems to be very well attached and difficult to pry off. I didn't want to absolutely rip it out, but it appeared that is what I would have to do. After no success in "gently prying" off the back end (with respect to the car), I tried the front end (less visible in case of damage) and eventually got the center and driver's side corner off. However, I discovered that there are plastic guide pins that have metal rings around them. These metal rings hold the headliner tight against the light panel housing, and it was quite a task to get the headliner back into this assembly. If the rear of the housing has the same metal rings on the guide pins (assuming I can get the housing free in the first place) I think I am going to find an alternative way to wire the V1. Does anyone know about the rear of the housing and if it has the same guide pin setup as the front?
Also, I do know the V1 has a remote display that will hardwire mount nearly anywhere, including the lighter. However, you still need to power the main unit. Running a cord from the dash to the windshield is what I'm trying to avoid. I only want a neat and semi-permanent way to power the V1.
The install pics on the FAQ page seem to be dead, does anyone have any others (or the originals) handy?
Thanks in advance.

Have you checked out this link? http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1
I only needed to take out the pillar by the driver side window and tucked in the wires by the head liner. Only took me 45 mins to install both main unit and the remote display... was not hard tho....

You don't really need to pop off the pillar trim. I found that you can tuck the wire nicely behind the trim using something like a credit card to push the wire in. Also the trick in getting the wire to stay at the front headliner trim by the windshield is to cut a 2 to 3" piece of clear plastic tubing, around 1/4 i.d., and use it to wedge the wire under the trim.

I did mine last night in about 30 minutes.
The pillar cover pops right off (much easier than the interior lighting panel). Initially, I saw that I could push the wire behind the pillar cover near the windshield, but then I would still have to find a way to route it down to the fuse panel. With the pillar cover removed, there is a cable channel exposed right there; I just dropped the cable down and it appeared right next to the fuse panel, even with the bulky RJ45 plug still on it.
No worries and the install looks perfect! Thanks all.
