A VDC Question

A very strange thing happened today and I wanted to know if this is normal or "built in". I'm going down in clover leaf in manualmatic mode, seeing how fast I can take it, roughly 50 mph so no big deal. I hit the apex and as I'm turning and decelerating the slip light lights up briefly and I swear the brakes of the car kicked in. I slow even more, the turn increases, and the same thing happens again. It scared the hell out of me and I'm thinking WTF? The car actually felt like it locked up a three times going through the full turn. Is this normal? I have had the car for 4 months and put 15,000 miles on it and this was the first time it really scared the hell out of me. Anyone else have a similar experience or others I need to worry about with VDC?

Yes, that's what it's supposed to do. When the rear end is sliding -- even a bit -- it's going to hit the outboard rear brake to tuck the tail back in.

This is why I use a KP Technologies box to turn "off" VDC when the engine starts up...

Enjoy,

Rick

Its trying to keep the car from sliding out of control, and yes it brakes hard! On dry pavement its usually overly conservative on the wet its usually right. I am shocked it took you 15k miles to trigger it.

Well, I have triggered the VDC before but not in this scenerio. It has saved my a@#$ a few times in the rain but going down hill through a cloverleaf at 50mph, it really shook me up at how hard it brakes. I suspect if someone was behind me too close and it locked the brakes they would have slammed into me. I would have though it would gradually apply pressure as the situation (in the computers opinion) worsened but now I know better. Live and learn it limits.

It can be dangerous when you are trying to speed up while into turning into heavy traffic. On ramps its not usually an issue because there's few people who would keep up with a G going that fast around a ramp.
