My car is only 3 weeks old and I've got rattles coming out all over the place. I already fixed the rear package shelf, but now I've got one in the passenger side door. I'm a little pissed about it.

 

Picked-up my coupe 3/1/03. Just got my first rattle in the passenger door yesterday. It is annoying!

 

welcome to the club. no, not the "love being a G owner club", but the "why does my brand new $35-$40K car rattle when i hit the slighest bump" club.

 

I guess stiff riding cars are bound to have some rattles.

The one rattle that I don't understand why Infiniti does not come up with a TSB to fix is the problem of the seat belt buckle rattling against the passenger door. Every G has this problem as it is a design flaw. I have fixed mine with velcro, but it is a band aid fix; and after a passenger has used the belt I have to remember to snap it back down or listen to it rattle - what an inconvenience. Infiniti should reto fit the whole seat belt mechanism. The last time I was at the Dealer, the service writer did not even know what I was talking about when I mentioned this problem!

I have also had the rear package shelf TSB performed, which fixed that rattle. I also have a rattle in the sun roof when it is opened. The Dealer will be on attempt #2 to fix that next time I am in.

 

If you have a good service department, these problems disappear in under an hour. I took mine in, they doubled up the TSB padding in every door, and it's been quiet as a mouse ever since. Hey, at least your tranny or electrical system isn't failing (a la our new Acuras and BMWs). With that in mind, I could live with a rattle for two days... Exactly! I guess everything's tight when it's brand new. Then the firm ride will loosen everything up in time. My only rattle is the same, seatbelt harness on the passenger side. I can seem to get rid of it by pivoting the arm towards the headliner.

That's great news! So there are TSB's for the door rattles? Should I tell the dealer to double up the padding?

 

Oh yeah, definitely. The originals rattled (some wires hit the metal inside the door frames, etc.) so they issued a TSB. They put padding in all the new ones, as well. Only problem is, the didn't put quite enough. This is a really simple fix... you could do it yourself, but I'd just recommend going in and having them do it. Just tell them to double up the padding and use one of the TSB kits issued for the '03. Have them do it to EVERY door, not just the one causing a problem, because sooner or later the might all develop it. Good luck,

rattles and crack anywhere in my car ...

Geez, I've had my coupe since November , with no rattles (except if the window is part-way down). Maybe they hand-built the fist production run

 

Mine just start couple days ago, I just drop off my car at the dealer yesterday. So what exactly do u have to add? What kinda padding?

I see you have an '02 R1. I own a shop that makes flush mount turn signals and single sided swingarms for R1's, as well as chroming and polishing. I've got a couple of R1's myself.
I just got a copy of all the TSB's. The factory knows about the rattles and there are fixes for the problems. Mine is going in on Thursday.

 

I've got a couple rattles - one seems to be coming from my glovebox area and another from my nav screen area. I have gone through 2 rattling rearview mirrors now also.

 

No wonder, GreggsCustoms that sounds familiar... U have ads on the R1-Forum right? I like the LED flush mount that u guys carry for the R1.... I have some other flush mount already, thanx anyway... But I'll check out the single sided swingarms...
