Re: Miles per Tank???

I have a 5AT and it also needs filling up between 280 and 320 miles. I only have a 1.4 mile commute to work, so I know that destroys the mileage. The worst I've gotten was just under 16 MPG and best was 23 MPG.

For reference, my old 4 Cyl Altima only got 15-17 MPG as well. At least someone got a nice car when I turned that lease in... ~15,000 miles for a 2000 GLE :-)

Re: Miles per Tank???

it's the same old song and dance here. some people getting around 20mpg. most getting 15-17. i get 15 give or take 1 mpg every tank. lots of short trips. 5 min on average. lots of stop and go neighborhood type stuff. the mpg suck, but nothing we can do about it except go buy a honda. that's not gonna happen. perhaps i'll get a new F150 and get the same numbers....maybe not.....

Re: Miles per Tank???

tpware hit it on the head about the low mpg per tank. I normally go on trips that are short(5 minutes to school) or long trips to la or even worse, riverside so it gives the car time to fully warm up and get the highest amount of mpg. Now, I average about 350 per tank and I fill it up when the light comes up and at the stations, I fill up to about 16-17 gallons so...

Re: Miles per Tank???

Macsg35coupe, First of all, our gas gauges vary a lot and what seems like empty, may still have 1/4 tank remaining. The only accurate way to figure your mileage is to fill to the top, drive to E, then fill to the top again to get your consumption in gallons, and divide that into the miles travelled.
I've run my car down to almost dry and travelled about 500 miles on a tank. I wouldn't recommend it at least without spare gas in the trunk, but it can be done.
My Coupe will do around 20 to the US gallon combined city and hwy driving.
On a steady speed trip (boring), it will yield 25-26 to the US gallon.
As GeoBau says tho, there's so many variables that can adversely affect mpg's.
I suspect warmup on these cars is especially bad for mileage, so short trips will kill mpg's quickly. My winter mileage is much worse due to longer warmup.
These cars weren't meant for economy, and what compounds the issue is that the estimated (EPA) mileage is optimistic. (IMHO) lol. (a common problem)
The car will give decent mileage under ideal conditions, but that's so damned boring it defeats the main purpose of the car. Enjoy.

Re: Miles per Tank???

When I first got my 6mt G35 in March, I got about 400 miles until the light came on. 10,000 miles later, plus some 20" rims, I'm still getting 360 miles or so, before the light comes on. I'm dead serious too. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Re: Miles per Tank???

For a long haul I have gotten as much as 27 mpg - that was sweet as i got around 430 to the tank. Usually i average around 23-25 mpg and 350 if i run it dry - but i dont do that often as its not a smart idea. You don't want to take the chance of injecting any impurities from the gas into the engine.

Re: Miles per Tank???

I've been averaging about 24 MPG, and a fillup from the "empty" warning on the Nav means about 18 gallons (with 2 to spare, presumably), so the math comes out to about 430 miles per tank, which is about right. Much better than my BMW which got similar mileage, but only took 14 gallons at a fillup, for about 100 miles less range.

Re: Miles per Tank???

I checked my mileage after less than 300 miles from delivery and was getting 16 MPG.. I'm glad .. It's new and not broken in.. Even if it stays the same.. guess what? it's not a Honda Civic! it drinks gas.. so what? a small price to pay for performance.. by the way.. most of my driving is city.

Re: Miles per Tank???

I get from 280 to 300 miles depending on the way I drive, I didn't used to mind paying for it but not since a few weeks ago when the price of gas went up to 1$can/liter for premium.

That would be like paying 2.77usd/us gallon!

"I have a 5AT with 4800 mi. and I only get 16-17 mpg.? I compute this based on my mileage divided by gallons at fill up (per the gas pump). This is disappointing considering that my BMW 540 (with a V8) at worst gets 18 mpg!
For people claiming 24 mpg, etc., how are you determining this? It seems odd that people are getting such big variances in MPG, even considering city vs. hwy, etc.. "

gsg, I agree it seems odd and I really can't explain it. Before I bought the coupe I was worried I would be getting the poor mileage others had reported. My calculations are done the old fashion way (same as you) and its about 24.5 right now. The NAV says 25.1 and I've noticed it to be about .5 to 1 gallon higher than when I calculate it manually.

Re: Miles per Tank???

Well i'm getting terrible gas mileage. Not sure if it has to do with only haveing 91 octane gas available here in cali? ALSO, where is the low fuel light? Does this only come with the navi? I don't see any low fuel lights in my instrumentation. (I dont have the navi)

thanks

On the left side of the gas needle, there's a little amber light that will illuminate if you're low. It's not a pic of a gas tank, or shaped like anything, just a small round amber dot.
