G35 Coupe Navi System seemed Cheap!

My friend just bought an 04 6MT with Navi and his Navi unit wasnt motorized, meaning it pops up via spring action and you had to manually push it back down. I test drove a 06 with Navi and they were motorized, they poped up when I started the car and when I pushed the button on the top it automatically went back down. Is there something wrong with my friends Navi or all the older ones Spring Action? if so I should stay away from the older models because IMO i think its sort of wack how a $40k car could have spring pop up manual press down Navi unit.

03-04 has a spring pop up... Most cars at any price don't have hidaway screens so technically if you leave it up its as good as the others. It really doesn't bother me; its still very easy to put up or down. If you want to pay for a newer car go for it; all the 03-04's are now less than 30k.

just think of it as one less moving part that can break. Figure w/ the auto up/down motorized feature, its gotta give sometime. And it does it everytime you turn the power off and on. And an 04 G is no longer a 40K car.

I didnt even know the new ones are motorized. Thats kinda cool, but its not that big of a deal. Its seems like it would take to long to pop up and eventually that motor will wear out.

i think the navs on the 03-04 looks better tho since its not as thick due to the motorized feature. It's thin and has a silver finish. But the rest of the 03-04 center console sucks compared to 05 and 06

I don't like the look of the screen protector half peeled off, but I am afraid I would scratch the screen if I were to peel it off. What a delimma.

I'm like that too but I took it off...realized since no one's touching it, not much of a chance getting scratched...

I dont mind it at all, I think its great our nav can "hide" in the dash. clicking a button on top of it to pop it up and push it down w/ my finger is no prob. Never had a prob with mine.

Wierd, I think the 04 center console is way nicer, the all metal around the sides seems real clean, i'm not a fan of the plastic sides.

However, I do like shift-boot on the newer years. 03/04 one is kinda lame.

If the nav screen is down when you turn off the car on an 05, the nav stays down when you turn it back on.

The only time I put it down is just before giving it to the valet to park.
I love the motorized screen..
