Brake Maintenance

Brake Maintenance
My dealer was doing some minor servicing of my 2004 G35 6 MT coupe, and they told me that I needed to have the brake pads replaced. The car has almost exactly 25,000 miles, and the dealer's service representative said that the brakes did not abnormally deteriorate and that they showed normal wear and tear. I approved the job, which will cost me $800 for all four.
What has been everyone's experience in this regard? A colleague of mine (who knows cars but isn't a G35 owner) says that new brakes do tend to wear-out fairly quickly and that a brake job at the 25,000 mile mark sounds normal. Plus if the brakes are performance components like Brembos, the show even more wear than standard braking systems.
Is the dealership's charge way out of whack?
I'm very interested in hearing everyone's experiences.

I think Chad from Riverside Infiniti sells them...either PM him directly or buy them on ebay.
Front pads - $130 + 20 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...spagenameZWD1V .
Rear pads - $95 + 20 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...spagenameZWD1V
I'm sure if you PM him directly, he work something out with the shipping. If you know of a good independent contractor, have him put it on instead of the dealer. Probably charge you at most $100 for install.
Here's his handle - Chad@infinitispecialists

Can the stock pads be used with Brembo slotted rotors?
I like the way the stock pads felt. I installed Hawk HPS and the initial grab is not as good. Although I noticed that the rotors show a ring around the center which suggest to me that it's possible the rotors need replacing. I have and will be installing Brembo slotted rotors this weekend in hopes that this improves the feel of the Hawk pads.
If not I may go back to fighting the brake for better braking in return.

Follow-up
I paid $200 for the front pads and $134 for the rear pads. Labor was the whopper - 4 hours at $112.50/hour (this is a an Infiniti dealership in downtown Chicago - not the cheapest place by a long shot!), but they did resurface the rotors. Do you all think that rotor resurfacing was necessary at 25,000 miles?

My brakes were coming apart at just under 10,000
and the dealership close to me replaced them for
free. I would never put factory pads back on your
G. For some reason our G brakes are really poor!
They stop ok but between the dust and how long
they last isn't up to Nissan quality!! Before I
spend $800 for brakes I'd look into Hawk or some-
one elses system! LOL
