got into an accident

quick question guys..what is the policy on how long you have to report accidents..i had a minor one..info was exchanged..other driver initially said he is willing to drive away..i hit a ford econoline truck..he barely got a dent..my front was pushed in..it was a 7mph hit..nothing major..i dont want to go thru ins yet..it happened yesterday..i have $1000 deductible..i am thinking if the damage is less than $2000 to fix I wont report it to ins..but if it exceeds that then I will get ins involved..i am going to get estimates all day tomorrow..but already 2 days will have passed..would ins get mad at me if i report it tomorrow evening?I have met life auto..they dont disclose that anywhere on their site..any help would help..I live in NY..

When is not that important, as far as I know...You might need a police report before you can get the damage fixed though. They do this in case you did something wrong and are covering it up. The auto shop might ask to see proof that you reported it to police already or they can't touch it. If you are not going to use insurance to pay for damage no need to inform them at all. (again as far as I know)
Hope you get it fixed quick.

dont quote me on this but i think you're fine to wait until he comes back with the estimate. no need to report anything to anyone until you decide how to take care of it.

i remember (twice actually) i did a minor fendor bender (my fault), the otehr drivers said they were going to get back to me with a quote and i never heard from them ever again....

Most insurance companies request that you report an accident immediately. I'm not certain what the consequencies, if any, of delaying a report. In my County the Police will not come to the scene of an accident unless there's personal injury.

just replace your front bumper, you can do that for 7-800 dollars, no need for insurance.

Post some pictures if you can...it'll be easier for us to estimate shop charges. Other thing...reporting to the insurance will cause notes on your carfax report.

$1,000 deductible? Ugh!

You don't necessarily have to file a claim, but you should definitely notify your provider ASAP. If you elect to pay for the damages yourself, it might not even go on your record. However, you're taking a risk by not letting them know. What if the driver of the Econoline suddenly decides he has symptoms of whiplash? It's just not worth the risk.

Prob not worth it to report...just pay the guy some money if he wants to get his dent fixed. If it was 7MPH, get yourself a used stock bumper from someone who went aftermarket and call it a day.
