Are HFC really necessary??

i was talking to this guy at encino exhaust or something like that the other day..his name is tony i think...anyway someone over at the 350z forum told me to talk to him since he is like the guru of exhausts or something like that..ok now to the point...we were talking bout piping size and and rasp and stuff and i asked him bout high flow cats and he told me to stay away from them..he said that he works on G's all the time and installs these HFC all the time...basically told me it wasnt a worth wild mod at all cause hes seen so many problems with them and they tend to hurt more than help..he said that the stock cats are completely fine and that changing them arent gonna give me any performance change...well i was shocked with this especially after reading everything written up bout them...anyway what do you guys think??

oh and everyone who likes hip hop go download this song: "Anything you ask for" -Game...the song is sick..especially the second verse...

i agree. more trouble than what you gain. very fragile too.
from what i heard, you cant even pass smog after couple months of use.

if you want a real gain, get racing pipes. i hate my hfcs.

i actually like my FHC's i like they way they sound, and i can feel the extra gain. if they end up cracking then i'll just put the stock ones back one.

you will loose low end torque but make it up on the high end....it all depends on what you want and what you want to do with your car... if you plan to st ot tt or sc(except for stillen) it's worth it... now which one, up to you..... and it should pass smog.. i didn't have a problem with mine and had it on for some time..... some will rasp....... some won't fit well, and others will be great.....good luck on it... but you will feel a difference....

I've asked the same question to several guys, some that work on them, and even some of the intake companies. I'm thinking of changing the entire exhaust, headers, cats, and all. Everyone I've spoken with said that not only are the headers a PITA to install, (and add a LOT to the expense) but by far the biggest gain would be from the cats, period. Not even to bother with headers unless I'm dying for 2~3 HP and want to spend a grand to get it.

Now the exhaust is another thing all together. Stillen would have to be at the top of the list for pure proven HP gains. There are several I'm looking at, but not all of them can do what the Stillen cat back does.

Talked with my Infiniti service manager today and he said it'd not be a problem at all, just make sure I do the research on the HF cats RE (don't get a pair that throws cat codes all the time). He also said that they see a good pair of HF cats making more HP than any headers, although they are close.

I have a neighbor with a G that is basically the same car and year as mine, he has a nice new exaust from CATs back, sounds great and looks nice, but now I can smoke him and before the cars were pretty close at any speed... He is pissed and I'm not making any exhaust changes.
