You can really do some weight reduction if you are running the oem Coupe 18s. You can go with some Volks or Track edition Rays 18s for a good rotational mass weight reduction. Losing weight in that area will make a big amount of difference. I really don't see alot of other practical weight reduction areas. I mean you don't buy a G35 coupe to have it look ghetto w/ no back seat. The spare removal might help but you need to have some tire flat somewhere in case you get a flat

Buy a lighter car that doesn't have heated leather seats, sunroof, large wheels, V6 engine, and full size spare. i.e. get a Civic

how much does the 18s weigh? I know the oem 19s are around 21lbs so u wont be saving much if the 18s are only 1-3 lbs less.

I believe the Falken G35 showcar is a good example of what you can do to shave off weight. They gutted the entire interior:

-Removed OE front/rear seats, dash, carpeting, sound deadening mat and linings, all stereo equipment, roof carpeting and panels, all plastic trim pieces and covers, etc.

-Removed OE gas tank, exhaust, suspension, wheels, trunk lid, hood, etc.

-Installed custom CF dash, panels, and minimalistic instrumentation, racing style steering wheel, roll cage, racing seats, milk jug sized gas tank, etc...

Voila!!! A G35 - ~500lbs

The following was posted by al503 on the Fresh Alloy side.....

It just depends on how much you want to spend. Here are some suggestions from $0 out of pocket to a lot of $$$ in very rough order.
- dump the plenum and battery cover. ~4 lbs.

- dump the spare and associated tools (you'll never need it UNTIL you take them out.) ~45 lbs.

-Back seat: if you never use the rear seat, and don't mind how it looks inside without it, dump it. It'll save you about 36 lbs. (Yes I weighed it when I was tearing apart the rear deck to find a rattle.)

-lightweight battery. You have a couple of choices here. Go with a lightweight battery from Optima and save about 11 lbs. Go with a super lightweight Odyssey and you can save more than 20. More importantly, you're reducing weight in the nose of the car.

-pulley: you can save about 5 lbs of rotational weight. Rotational weight is the best to get rid of as each lb you remove you get to multiply. I've heard of everything from x2 to x7.

-lightweight exhaust: GReddy sp2 will save you about 21 lbs. A ti single exhaust (y-pipe back) like the JIC can save you about 55 lbs. Cost is an issue here as you will probably have to lay out $1200 IIRC. A hybrid steel/ti single exhaust will save you about 35-40 lbs and split the difference in cost.

-Lightweight flywheel/clutch combo: you can go absurdly light here saving anywhere from 11 lbs with the nismo to close to 30 with the lighter ones like the tilton. Again, this is rotational weight, which is multiplied and its in the nose of the car.

-Lightweight wheels and tires: Lightweight 18"s can weigh as little as 17 lbs. The stockers are around 24 lbs. That's 49 lbs multiplied. The tires tested in C&D differed in weight by up to 3 lbs per IIRC. That could be an additional 12 lbs of rotational weight multiplied.

-Lightweight rotors. You can get stoptech rotors and replace the brembos that will save you a total of around 10 lbs. of rotational weight.

-CF. I'm hesitant to list carbon fiber as the weight savings in the hood and rear deck is very little (compared to the cost) but you could probably save about 15 to 20 lbs.

So, if you take the average of the weight savings (used 15 lbs for the battery IE) and using a x4 for the rotational weight, you can effectively drop over 500 lbs.

So, lets say the stock coupe weighs 3500 and has 298 hp. That’s a power to weight ratio of 11.74. (Each pony has to motivate 11.74 lbs.)

If you reduce the weight of the coupe to 3000, your power to weight is 10.06. For an idea of what that means the m3’s power to weight is about 9.8.

Besides the improvements in acceleration, you’ll also get the side effects (benefits) of:
1. better fuel economy and longer tire life
2. better skidpad performance
3. better braking
4. less wear and tear for the car as a whole
