Re: G35 Engine Break-In , paint and rattles
Hahaha, me too, I'm on a lease as well. But even if I owned the car I wouldn't feel any different. I mean, I was absolutely itching to punch it for the first 600 miles. I was trying to go the whole 1,200 miles nice and easy, but I only have it for 3 years (36,000 miles) and I know it doesn't really do anything to punch it early...just as long as you don't abuse the engine.
Did you guys know that Porsche has no break-in period at all??? Yeah...it's not that Porsche does anything different with their cars (well they do, because they are pimps), but they are just the first to admit that you really don't need to worry about breaking in the car correctly...you'll always break it in fine.

Wow... thanks MrElussive, just you know... i have been brought up... when you first buy a new car....take it easy for the first 2000 miles...so u can break in the engine properly... and plus i am purchasing the car...cuz i do too much driving to lease a car. and you know i just have this complex of pushing it too hard... too early can do some damage in the long run,... and since i am not leasin it.... i wanna be safe then sorry...but thanks dude, i am gonna feel a lil better about going over 3000 rpm...it was the dealer that said, "Just don't go over 3000 rpm, and u'll brake in the car fine"...when i had my old 2003 G35 automatic...i smashed on it finally at 1190 miles, cuz i couldnt wait till 1200 miles to finally feel the TRUE power of the VQ...and even for an Automatic it got up....but now i cant wait to see how the 6 speed feels...oh yea what is the lowest 1/4 mile time a G coupe has hit? the lowest i read was a 14.23

GemmDeMoN,
It states very plainly in THE MANUAL - Page 5-17
BREAK-IN SCHEDULE
During the first 1,200 miles (2,000 km), follow
these recommendations to obtain maximum
engine performance and ensure the future
reliability and economy of your new vehicle.
Failure to follow these recommendations may
result in shortened engine life and reduced
engine performance.
O Avoid driving for long periods at constant
speed, either fast or slow. Do not run the
engine over 4,000 rpm.
O Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear.
O Avoid quick starts.
O Avoid hard braking as much as possible.
O Do not tow a trailer for the first 500 miles
(800 km).
Which tells you that your dealer was lying and you were worried (gulible?) enough to believe it.
Now with that said, I agree with others here - drive it anyway you want. The fact of the matter is that I have seen no data to support the slow-break-in method except what is printed in the manual and maybe common sense. If you do a search on "engine break in" I'm sure you'll find the link to motorman's web site where he has pictures of engines he has broken in both ways and which seems to support his reccomendation to ignore the manufactures warnings and to drive it hard from day 1 - escpecially during the 1st 20 miles!
