evolutionimports.com imports skylines here to the states. there' s a guy driving a R33 around new york with no prolbems. you just have to get it "inspected"

You're kidding right? Shipping is about $1200 in a container, customs is 2-2.5% and since the Skyline is basically the G35 just RHD there should be very few modifications that need to be done. Such as swap the side mirror glass with a domestic one, and any other safety labels.

you can get one from MotoRex then ship to India....just my thoughts.....

Ahhh Motorex USED to....not anymore...they can only sell R32s maybe 33s but def not 34s. Apparently they crash tested only the 32s and they claimed the results could apply across the line and then DOT found out thats not the case recently and told motorex they can only sell the ones they actually crash tested ( R32s only...but dont quote me ). Also are you talking about the skyline GTR or the skyline350 ( our G35s ) I am not sure, but if you are talking about the skyline350, importing a RHD *should* be simple, since its the same car sold here ( and thus DOT approved ) just with RHD. But if you are talking about the skyline GTR then motorex is the only option, and you would be buying a 10-15 year old car which will cost you a lot of money and then cost you even more to send it to india. And dont forget you have to own the car for two years in your name before you can take it there.

Cuz if you import a car that was used by you personally for 2 years you dont pay import tax. If he imports it from Japan ( and I assume he lives in the US ) it wont fit the personally used criteria and he would have to pay import tax (110% I think...yeah not a typo more than double the cost itself)

So my best option would be to get the Skyline (G35 in Japan) to the US. Drive it here and take it to India. The only thing is that it should pass the US emissions and crash tests.

Any clue whether the Skyline would pass all the US required tests?
Anybody you know who has the Skyline in the US?

Thanks!
i dont kno y u would take such a beautiful car to india... the roads will kill ur suspension... ive been there couple of times and yet i dont see to many nice cars there.. cuz of the pot holes and all of the dust... and the reckless driving goin on.. i would rather buy myself a driver out there and jus relax...

To show off.... Nah... depends where you are, there are some places where there are some nice smooth roads, I know cuz Ive been on them...but yeah its not that common. But the bigger problem is getting parts, service, or even premium gas ( but that should change, Shell just got permission to open 2000 retail sites ). Also they sell many nicer cars than the G35 there now. Oh and last year when I was visiting I saw a hooked up Supra TT, body kit, deep dish rim, exhaust and all.

us vehicles and japanese vehicles have differentsafety rqmts. for instance, japanese skylines do not have safety glass, and their bumpers do not pass us rqmts. so you will need to bring in two skylines (both need to have us safety devices installed) and crash test one to pass the other...

my borther lived in japan and found this fact out. the skyline is a great car, but is overhyped. in japan this is a car now driven by mothers going to get groceries. when i was there, there were far better (And cheaper cars) out. its just the mystique about the skylines that were modded (and b/c 4 wheel drive) that makes us guys salivate. youre bettter of with a 240 sx or a mazda rx7 1991-1994. that rx7 will kick the hell out of a skyline.

There's a guy on this board, his user name is "Hyperlitesmu"

I believe he's imported an older skyline from Japan to the US, and has very detailed threads talking about the whole process.

The RX7 is good ... until the rotary blows up. It's an absolute mess to fix (based upon what others have said about it).

This is a Nissan/Infiniti board... you're going to see how people oogle over an R34.

In Canada, we have to wait 15 yrs before any car can be imported and plated. I'm just waiting 8 more years before I can import a RHD R34.
