Getting Skyline to the US (RHD)

Folks,

I plan to move to India in the next 2-3 years. I am able to take any car that I own in the US to India with no import duties. The problem is that India does not allow LHD. The US allows RHD (Right Hand Drive) vehicles and I have confirmed this.

So my best option would be to get the Skyline (G35 in Japan) to the US. Drive it here and take it to India. The only thing is that it should pass the US emissions and crash tests.

Any clue whether the Skyline would pass all the US required tests?
Anybody you know who has the Skyline in the US?

Thanks!

i think you can import it, but you cant register it. you can get it imported and just keep it here for a while. or you can import the R34 w/o driving it or registering it and youll be ok.

I just saw a RHD cheap jeep being driven here in the US. RHD cars can be driven in the US. I just wanted to know if anyone has any idea about getting the 2006 Skyline which basically is the G35.

Oh well ... forget it ... shipping costs from Japan to US + inspection fees + any other fees >= price of 2 or more G35's in the US.

that's usually the case. But incase you wondered, crash tests and other infomations can be relayed to the US G35, the law basically states that you need to find a car in US similar to the car you are importing to use as a base to register the car. Therefore the skyline is really the G35. Also US allows right hand drives because the post office cars are right hand drives.

MotoRex is gone.. paul walker bought skylines for him and his friends.. but the owner of motorex didn't have time to register the skylines so he just put on unregistered vin #s on them.. one day, one of paul walkers friend had an accident and police found out that the vin # wasn't registered.. so motorex is gone..

I my missing something here? Why not just import the Skyline direct to India from Japan? Why do you have to bring it into the US? Besides have you been to India? Where are you planning on driving that thing in that place?

I agree. No hassles about registering it here. Besides you might get it cheaper since there is no import tax passed to you from Japan to US.
