Well I am looking at the 2005 or above Skyline. Basically the car similar to my G35. Not the GTR. Import tax to US is 2.5% and India is 150%. So I might as well get it to the US and take it there.

True I could buy like a BMW 3 series (the new ones have better shape) over there or something but trust me I love my G and I am sure it can handle Indian roads (its getting better). I have lived in India for 18 yrs and US for 8 yrs. And I have seen SL and CLK imports running there. I saw the Phantom run there during my last visit.

And every eye will pop when they see this baby on Indian roads

I wonder how to buy a G35 from Japan. Would Nissan or Infiniti USA help me? Anyone has any experience?

To import a V35 you would need basically a letter from Nissan saying that it is the same as a G35, which will never happen. It is NOT the same car, at least in the eyes of the government. If it were that easy, this sort of thing would be happening all the time already.

So no, Nissan/Infiniti will not help you.

There isn't much that you should have to change over to bring this car to US Specs. Not to mention anything you do have to replace is readily available as a G35 part. If you import a vehicle for personal use the DOT can't expect you to ram the ****er into a wall to prove it's safe. That is plain stupid. There are Registered Importers that you'll have to go to who can run tests on the vehicle and then you have a basis for what needs to be altered.

An 06 Skyline Coupe 6MT is $33,600 USD. Figure in $1200 for a container to ship it. $850 for customs tax, and a safe estimate for a R.I. to do their job is about $5000. You might be able to get away with less work since it is almost identical to a USDM G35, assuming you can get a letter from Nissan stating so.

Importing an entire car cost a lot more than $5,000. If you were to ship it in pieces it would be about $5k. I was looking at importing a JDM Celica GT-4 or Supra a while back. After doing about a months worth of research it was going to cost well of $20k on top of the vehicle costs to get them over full legal. In my opinion its just not worth it.

Can you detail what the costs would have been?
