What makes a "Built" motor? And Rebuilt tranny?

I'd love to toss a Vortech in my car and call it a day... (okay maybe with some cams and pullies but thats beside the point)... I'm not to sure what exactly building your motor entails.. what do I have to buy-- Do I have to buy it all at once? Or can I do it parts by parts.

Also, Many have said "at 500rwhp you need to rebuild your tranny"

Great... sign me up? Has anyone done that? What does that include and cost?

What would you do-- Keep adding stuff to your car, slowly build your engine (if possible) and rebuild your tranny then add boost when your done?

Or just boost it to around 450ish Hp and call it a day?

I only make about 600-800$ a month in extra money and I have about 1800 Saved up right now.

What would you do??

I should just find a sponsor right?? Lol that'd rock-- I dunno how to do that either or I would =D

If you build your motor, build it all at once. The cost of pulling it out and tearing it down each time would be huge. Building your motor includes: new cams, forged crankshaft, forged pistons and connecting rods, new rings, mabye porting and polishing, new bearings, mabye sleeve the pistons and lots of other stuff, but I think that is pretty much buillet proof if you do all that and im sure im leaving some stuff out

You should try and search for some of the members on here who have built their motors, they probably know more about it than me.

Heh- well, I try not to spend anything-- Gas is paid for through my other job and I got a full scholarship to my college so I don't pay rent books or classes.

Overhead = 0

Thanks for the link-- And I may call japtrix thanks

400whp is atainable with FI without built block, ur gonna need a lil bit more mods and maybe up the boost depending on certain setups but its definitely attainable... now 400+ your gonna start worrying about reliability

you can get a built short block that will safely get you 400-500 whp for around 5k (not including install)

I have all the bolton breathing mods including TD exhaust-- 400 shouldn't be a problem

Thanks.. 5k is way to much to payfor with no boost to show for it.

when everything said and done,1800 is gone just for the labor alone.
for your age and the fund you have...stay away from this subject.stock is perfectly fine
