Exclamation This Cant Be True?

Dont get at me for racing but.
my boy just got a e36 m3 4 door with rims and exhaust used for liek 15000 i think it has 80,000 miles on it anyway we decided to run i have a 5AT with CA- plenum-grounding wires and Y pipe we were on the highway doen 40 or 50 then we both jumped on it i didnt pull away from him at all we stayed dead even the entire time up to 110 i dont get it? stock for stock i should kill him plus with my mods i should be even better is there something wrong with my car did i not break it in properly?

His car is a automatic too so lets not have some Jerk off say get a 6M/T.

That's not surprising at all, and people read too much into break-in.

Here is why

The E36 M3 US model are not that fast; the E36 M3 Euro model (which Japan also got) is. They "dumb-down" the US model by making it single VANOS and a few other things to drop the horse power. I think the most power the stock E36 (US) had was 260 BHP vs. the 302 (or so) hp with its Euro counterpart.

The good news is that the E46 are the same for both the US and Euro model--no "dumbing-down."

I would be good to see the G win, but it's ok as long as it's an M3. Those old M3s run about 5.5 seconds 0-60 if I'm not mistaken. I don't think the auto or even 6MT G, lightly modded or not, can touch that. I would say the Ms tranny is much better and far more race oriented than the G's tranny. Don't sweat it partner, it's an M3, and you didn't lose.

Isn't the E36 M3 quite a bit lighter than the G35 coupe?

I really dont understand why you or anyone think just because you got those Modds on and thinks your car is faster than stock? did you know how much more hp/tq you gain with those modds? and in terms of real time speed?

I am unable to quote a previous comment from another topic verbatim, but the member said something to the effect that. "Our cars are not fast and I don't know why people think that they are."

I'm not the least bit surprised you didn't win against him. People underestimate the quickness of the BMWs relative to their published HP numbers. The G35s are fast cars compared to normal cars, but are middle of the pack compared to other high performance cars.

Chill out, you raced an M3 and didn't lose. By the way, any modding short of going FI, doesn't do enough to make a difference in the G35.
