Doh.

126 MPH Jaunt Leads to Jail

By Jerry Markon

A Georgetown University law student who was trying to impress his
girlfriend admitted yesterday that he cranked up his new Infiniti to 126
mph on the George Washington Memorial Parkway -- among the highest speeds
ever clocked on the stretch of federal road.

The GW Parkway can be a fun road to drive when not much traffic is present, but that had to be a scary drive! Also, as an aside, being it occured in VA, it is quite likely that he didn't have a Radar Detector.

Man, that's pretty effed up! If it was in traffic ok, but at 4am? Give the guy a break. I've had my car up around that speed a few times on empty stretches of highway. I'd be pissed if it got me arrested. Guess I better keep it below 100...

Let me assure you, this is not an empty stretch of highway. This is a road that was built before Highway Safety Standards as we now know them existed. Windy road, stone walls just off the shoulder, blind curves, shear drop offs.

It's a little reminescent of Skyline Drive, but in the close-in suburbs. Also, 4:00 AM may seem like the wee hours, but in Washington, DC, that's not the same traffic-wise as the middle of Iowa.

I don't live there so I don't know the highway but from the article it's not a long empty highway that you or I may see. It's a scenic route and the speed limit there is between 25 and 50mph depending on what stretch it was in according to the article. So, going that fast especially on a "highway" like that is nuts. He got exactly what he deserves. In fact, he got off lucky if you ask me.

I have driven 70 mph on the G-dub. I thought the speed limit was extremely low for that road. 50 mph on a separated 2-lane (each direction) highway is BS. I think the speed limit on the Beltway is 55? Maybe they need to have speed limits that change based on the road conditions, because when it is summer and it is dry, 50 is crawling. Besides, there is no fast way to get from the center of DC to the Beltway. They should build something other than slow surface streets or the GW parkway.

I don't live there but have visited many times.

If a cop clocked him at 125 mph, I think he might've gone much faster.

The dick got off easy. They did not put him in jail and threw away the key.

However, I think his action should warrant he never drives again.

But, the worse part of his action created undue attentions for all of us in a G. The cops now think all G owners are bunch of rednecks and take the law for granted. So I guess there may be some repercussions from this for those who live in this area in the next few days if not weeks.

To the guys who did this, all I have to say is "Thank you, you focking brainless **** hole. Hope next time you paste yourself on the side of GW Parkway". And I hope you are a member here to read this.
