Question 2006 Headlights, got them, now what?

Looking for a DIY or explanation of how I can take my 03's out and put in my 06.

It's probably not as simple as unplugging the old ones and plugging in the new is it? I doubt it, so I wanted to ask here. I searched in the "Lights" section, but did not find anything...

Please help,

Thanks,

-WoW

Yes, actually it is just that easy.... These are totally plug and play. Just take the front bumper off at the sides and front, you can keep the bottom attached. Lean the bumper forward and remove the four 10mm bolts that hold the headlights in and slide them out a bit and unplug them. Replace them with the '06 tighten em in there and replace the bumper very carefully.... Thats it!

Question

So how does the functionality from 2003 to 2006 transfer across?

03 Parking Lights become the 06 Daytime running lights?
The Highs and Low's stay the same, I got that...

Also what about the parking lights now that I mention it...the 06's only uses the AMBER lights for TURN SIGNAL. Where as the 03' used for Parking {AND} Turn Signal. If I can get that, I'll miss it!

It's a neat look seeing a Coupe coming up from behind with those Amber parking lights and strip lights on.

I guess that's what I'll be "Sacrificing" huh!?!?

Is there a way we can wire the 2006's to have the Amber Lights stay on for parking lights like the 03's????

Thanks guys,

-WoW

hey WoW,

check this DIY thread https://g35driver.com/forums/lighting/81002-g35-coupe-headlight-removal-guide-3-simple-steps.html tells you how to remove the bumper and the headlights. pretty straight forward. Try and get someone else to help you IF you do the install at night like I did lol

and yes, it actually is that easy! once you get the bumper in the correct position, remove your old headlights, plug the new headlights, set em up and you're set! (well as long as you put everything back together of course).

Gotta make sure you have all the correct bulbs and you'll be set. any questions, feel free to ask in the Lighting forum. I'd be more than happy to help!

All the light bulbs are different so you have to change all of it. The old bulbs won't work for the 06.

shouldnt take more than 30min to do it, the hardest part is gonna be unpluging the wire harness, its a tight space and you cant see much. other than that its a piece of cake

Question

To Wally:
Thanks Bud. I really appreciate the link and the offer to help. I'll take off the front bumper (Guess I'll need instructions on that as well, maybe in that link you gave me?) and I'll replace the lights. Like you said, "plug n' play". Very cool!

Now why couldn't they have done that for the 05-06 guage cluster? You know the ones with the amber "Halo" around them. I wanted to buy that cluster and 'upgrade' that part as well, but most guys here say that it's a total different socket "plug". Does anyone know of how to 'hard wire' it then...? I guess I'll post that question in another topic..

Anyways,
To the Rest:

I've seen guys on here with 06' headlights on a 2003 model, so I KNEW that it could be done and I wanted it bad enough, so that's why I went ahead and bought BEFORE I knew what I was doing. See guys, I just TRUST you all that much! Much Love...ok nuff of that sh&t!

To that one guy:
Yes, I know it doesn't have the clearance strip. That is a bumber, but I'll have both sets of lights, so I can switch them out as I like over the course of ownership of this car. That's the beauty of this "plug n' play"!!

To that other one guy: [can't remember everyones crazy profile names to pin point who said what, LOL]
Yes, I know that the new lights take different 'model' lights. The Head Lamp Balist told me which ones is which. It's written on the plastic. I've got to now decide which are the ABSOLUTE BEST to buy. I don't want to go cheap. I also don't want to put them in, go through the trouble of installation, just to decide that I don't like that look of the bulbs and do it all over again. Anyone got some links of great sites for these 06' lamps?

P.s. Does anyone know of how to get the 2006 turn signals to function as parking lights like my 03's do?

How much are the 06 headlights. The only difference from my 05 to 06 is the projector?

they were $625 for the housings alone! i ended up spending a good 800-900 with all the bulbs and what not, and I installed it myself as well...

and there are other things different from the 05 to 06, don't know all of them but the tail lights are different (same shape but they got 'nipples' now lol)

What the difference is, is the quality difference in the light output. The difference is day and night.

$625 for those headlights is crazy. Its much cheaper just to retro-fit a projector in it.
