V1 Laser Warning in Sun?

My V1 started going off about every 10 - 15 seconds with full laser alert while I was driving toward the sun.

Happens around 8am and 5 pm here in Texas. Is this normal? I called Valentine and the lady said that happens at certain times of the year. I've only had my unit since June and absolutely loved it up till now but I have never had this happen before.

Anyone else have this problem?

Re: V1 Laser Warning in Sun?

Mine has only gone off once in Laser mode, and I can't recall the conditions, but I never did see a cruiser.

It did save me last night though. On the freeway I take home from work I was going about 90ish and I got a Ka alert about 15 seconds prior to seeing the cruiser at the wide S curve on 580W between Livermore and Pleasanton. I hit the brakes when I heard the alert, and an Expedition in the #2 lane I had passed a bit earler went flying by. The officer pulled out, passed me, and pulled him over.

I should just slow down, I'm too old to be playing cat and mouse.

I have not had that experience with the V1 which I have owned now for six years! I recently got the upgrade when I got my G!

My laser warning used to go off when I honked the horn. Random?

I've had mine for a couple of months and it's done that twice. That tone damn near stops your heart 'cause you think you're busted.

Re: V1 Laser Warning in Sun?

Nope, that's a new one on me----sun equals laser warning going off. Then again, my laser mode's only triggered about 4 times since I've owned it (7 or so years). And "TrentaCinque" is right; the sound is so unusual that it almost causes a heart attack. But so far, no tix from laser. My normal drive thru Texas has been El Paso to San Antonio. And a few more times I've driven San Antonio to Ok City via I-35 and others.

Just watch out for the deputy coming AT you and your Valentine detector barely goes off at all (one dot and a very slow beep-beep as if the radar gun is way far away and over a hill). It ain't over a hill!!!!! It's right there, and you're gonna get caught. I've told this to Mike Valentine, personally, since it's happened twice to me in two diff states. What it means is I think the radar's getting better and some deputies are reading the numbers WITHOUT going to full on.

Many deputies are also using a very good method of "instant on" where it's almost unstoppable by even the vaunted Valentine. If you're going 15 or 20 over the limit, accept the ticket. It's got your name on it.

Re: V1 Laser Warning in Sun?

the new trailblazers/envoy's give off that laser pulse when they are braking infront of you. So beware of that.

Otherwise mine hasnt never falsely alerted laser.

Heh got shot at 3 times last night on the highway (bridge underpass speed-trap), luckily i wasnt speeding!

Re: V1 Laser Warning in Sun?

In regards to the horn setting it off - there is a known issue (possibly only the older units) where a brief, subtle battery voltage drop (from using another electrical accessory in the car that draws enough amps) causes the laser detector to go off. I had this problem and Valentine sent me a different power unit box, which I think had a capacitor in it to keep the voltage to the detector stable.
