G35C 30,000 Mile Service

Ok, so in a short time I will need to do the 30K service. I have done some research on here and see that a lot of it is not necessary. Well, lets put it all in one place. Here is the list my dealer provided me with. Any help on what is really needed?

1. Replace engine oil and filter
2. Lubricate all locks and hinges
3. Replace transmission fluid
4. Replace differential oil
5. Replace engine air filter
6. Replace wiper blade refills
7. Replace AC microfilter
8. Replace engine coolant
9. Replace radiator cap
10. Replace engine drive belts
11. Inspect AC system
12. Inspect all lights
13. Inspect transmission fluid
14. Inspect axel and suspension
15. Inspect brake lines and cables
16. Inspect brake system
17. Inspect cruise control vacuum hoses
18. Inspect driveshaft boots
19. Inspect exhaust system
20. Inspect ball joints
21. Inspect steering gear and linkage

The a grand total for the list of 21 items provided to me?!?!

$825.93

Now, for my specific case I am already counting out the following:
5, 6, 7, 9
as:
5. I have a KN Drop in air filter,
6. can pick up wiper blades on my own,
7. already did the incabin filter on my own, took 15 mins,
9. sounds like a stupid thing to replace? lol

What else guys? Can't do anything with fluids on my own as I live in an apartment complex and have no real tools....

I really need the loaner car, but heck, for the right savings I can rent a car for the day!

I then found the 07 Maintenance guide and see that the items listed are the "Premium Maintenance" plan, but the things required for warranty are:

Replace engine oil/filter
replace engine air filter
replace incabin microfilter
then do the inspection items.... says to replace auto trans fluid if "towing a trailer, using a camper or a car-top carrier, or driving on rough or muddy roads"

Maybe just do trans fluid inspection but do a trans flush at 60k?

I would have the oil changed and the air filter if needed and call it a day. The rest is pure profit and unecessary.

I agree with Bocatrip (again).

Pure profit.

That's more than a medical doctor charges for a physical (with lab blood analysis).

The service depts at dealerships are as hungry as ever, due partially to poor New car sales. The consumer needs to be more informed than ever to avoid these unnecessary traps in taking our hard earned money.

I was a service advisor at a dealership for a short period of time, I would do step 1 and 5. If you really need it do step 6 and 7. Save your money or give it to me if you feel like blowing it. You can look more into the other steps at 60k.

Great information guys, I asked the guy if tranny flush was really necessary at 30k as even my old mustang had 100k transmission fluid life! He said that since this is a performance car things wear differently and that it needs to be replaced every 30k.... but I figure since it is listed as optional by the service docs in the car, I should be able to wait till 60k.... Thanks for all the info guys!

I did my 30k maintenance a couple weekends ago. Like the others said you don't need to do everything. My car wasn't shifting as smooth as when I got it so I went ahead and did the transmission oil. I did the rear differential while I was under there since it's the same procedure and quick. Plus I bought the car used so I wasn't sure what fluids were put in originally. I put in Amsoil for both oil changes and my car is running much better now! I definitely recommend it if you have a manual trans and shifting isn't what it used to be..

I just got my 30k done on my FX about a month ago.

Dealer did oil change, and dash replacement.
Also replaced the battery because the car started up weak. Warranty didn't cover it of course, because of some bs...
They also "claim" to do a 20 point inspection which might include most of the things in your list.
They also did some other ish.. but can't remember..

My question is, do you guys actually think they "inspect" our cars?
I myself doubt it.
I beleive they look for everything wrong, then try to get you to change/fix it so you can pay.

We're more than happy to let you watch our techs do their work. Yes, they spend quite a bit of time poking and prodding to make sure everything is okay.

Remember, anything broken we find that is warranty work, we get paid on from Infiniti. We really do want to find everything possible.

Any info on what really NEEDS to be done to the car at 30k?
