Six CD Changer in the Trunk?

Let me start off by saying that I'm not complaining, just questioning the rational.

Infiniti puts in an Ipod connector, auxilary ports, single CD player that plays multiple formats and downloads to a 9 GB hard-drive, XM radio and a CompactFlash reader-- then puts a 6 CD changer in the trunk? Why didn't they add an 8 track player and some turntables while they were back there? My dad would love that.

Did anyone else do a double take when the salesperson told about the CD changer?

The reason the changer is located in the trunk is because there isn't enough room in the console for the HDD for the navigation and the in dash 6-CD changer. That is why G35's without navi have the in dash 6-CD changer while cars with navi have the 6-CD changer in the trunk.

Honestly it isn't a big deal to me. I'd much rather have the HDD-based navi, even if that means the changer is located in the trunk. After all, most of my music is on my iPod anyway.

+eleventybillion

If it was an MP3 6-disc changer it would've made sense. As is, it's pretty much worthless, imo.

Did it really free up some space? I should look into doing this.

My honest guess is that Nissan had a large stock pile of these bare bones CD changers and was face with writing them off as a loss or selling them to you and I.

after you remove the changer...buy the non-changer trunk liner. it is just under $100. then the top of the trunk will go straight across & not have the CD changer in the way. I am hoping to sell my changer to someone who wants it & use the $$$ to pay for the new trunk liner.

Does removing the 6 CD changer cause any problems with the rest of the system? Any wire splices necessary, or is removing it completely glitch-free?

Why don't you try and let us all know?

I've taken out the wires that connects to the CD player before while I was doing the sub-woofer installation, but it seemed to be ok..., but don't take my words for it since I put them back on as soon as I tested the woofer was working... LOL

I've got a weak heart for me to do such things... LOL

I have not done it yet...but to my knowledge you can just unplug the harness going to the changer. I was going to put electric tape over the open end of the harness just for extra safety. Once you unplug the changer, the only change to the system is that it will not show up when you cycle through the various sources (CD player, XM radio, FM radio, Music Box, etc.)

Thanks. I think I will do this. The CD changer has no value with the NAV system, and the extra trunk room will be nice.

Now to find the part number for the liner and get that ordered.
