Question Mechanical Question, need help!!!

I started my car this morning and some white smoke came from the tail pipe. Not much smoke but enough to notice. I assumed that it's burning oil so I checked the dip stick. When I did the entire dip stick was covered in dark oil like it was over filled and hasn’t been changed in a while; but it's only been 2200 miles since my last oil change. I'm planning to make an appointment at my dealer tomorrow. I was hoping someone would have an idea what this may be or at least some info on what I should tell the dealer in the morning.

Thanks for any info that can be provided.

It doesn`t sound like you wiped the dipstick and reinserted it before reading your oil level. Pardon me if I misinterpreted your post.

Blue smoke is oil and white smoke is just vapor.

I just had the same thing

Lately, my oil light comes on while braking before a turn, otherwise it is off. I hadn't gotten around to doing anything about it for a few days then the engine started making noises at about 2200 - 2600 RPM.

I went to check the oil and the dip stick was covered with very dark oil (it does need a change) and even after wiping it, it was covered when I pulled it out.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks In Advance,

Rob

+1.

As others have mentioned, at start-up when it's cold thats normal and will go away shortly.

Change the oil SOON! Measure how much oil comes out.

The oil light comes on when your pressure is low, and for it to come on during braking might mean your oil level is low...like 3 quarts low.

Check the dipstick after the car sits for 4 hours. The oil will setttle and you will get a more accurate reading. Checking after the engine has just been run sometimes gives false readings.

I'm sorry to hear the bad news man but you are REALLY close to needing a new motor. Step one: get an ACCURATE check of the oil level. I know the dipstick sucks, so pull the airbox and check it without having to maneuver the dipstick around. Your oil light is coming on because of low oil pressure. The low pressure is being caused by low level or something interfering with flow (contamination, blocked filter or other). If your level is low, which I'd guess it is, put a few quarts in and you'll be ok driving to a shop who can figure out why you're burning oil. If your oil level is ok you NEED to be towed to a shop. I hope it's not too late, but the fact that your motor is making is noise is not a good sign.

If anyone takes anything away from this post, it's that when the oil light comes on in any vehicle, you suck up your pride, stop ASAP, be that guy broken down on the side of the highway and have it towed home or to a shop. Unfortunately modern cars have so many lights on the dash that we're lulled into thinking that its just an advisory. The oil light is not advisory, it means you're 10 seconds from shelling out mad $$$ on a new motor.

^Make that last bit "will almost always give a false reading"

Mine is impossible to get anywhere near an accurate reading unless it's sat for an hr on level ground.

Oh BTW. Major fail on necroposting n00b.

The great thing about the Revup is that oil changes aren't needed. The motor will take care of that for you.

Let the engine sit for 15min+ before checking it, check it warm.

Also Black oil does not mean its time for change, oil gets black as it holds contaminants. There is no way you can tell if the oil is time to be changed when it gets dark.
