grinding noise when i shift into first....

hey guys!!
i own a 03.5 6MT.
i bought it used with 40k on it.
it was my first time driving a manual car. and now im fine driving it...
the problem is everytime i put it into first gear i hear this grinding noise from the clutch im guessing...
i dont kno if this is only me. but the sound of the gears changing like the metal parts it self inside the engine is really loud from the driver seat...
does this mean i have to get a new clutch???
my friend said not to worry about it because something like a clutch is strong and will last long.

if i bought it used with 40ks on it wat are some things that i might have to be concerned about?? and what are some engine parts that i might have to change/replace????

Also there are some rattling noises comming from the driver side window everytime i put the windows up. and after the windows up and if i go over a bump it has this popping noise from the window and the door of the driver's side. does anybody know anything about this??

thanks guys!!!!!

I think there is a TSB on the window.
As far as your Trans. If it is only in 1st gear then it shouldn't be your clutch.
The bad news is it may be the transmission and 1st gear or the synchros themselves. It could also be a TOB, although again if it is only in first gear then the previous assumption may be true.
Definitley take it in before anything else gets worse.

Its not you clutch. If it was your clutch was worn out and when you put it in gear, the car would just sit there and have little or no movement. You would hear some steady grinding nosie but not much, depending on the state of wear on your clutch. If you are hearing loud and abrupt grinding nosies when trying to shift, its more than likely your sychros or linkage. Not a good thing. I think Corba was right. Take it in and get it looked at quickly

Are you at a complete stop when putting it in 1st? Because if your not then yes it will make some noises. It is not good to put it into first when still moving.

I don't believe there are no 1st gear syncros.

If that is what happens ... then you might be trying to force it into 1st. As G35_TX mentioned no syncros in 1st. So if you want to shift to 1st at low speeds < 10mph, then just rev the engine a bit, put little pressure on the stick in direction of the 1st gear and it will just pop right in when the revs are correct.

Try this:

Assuming you're talking about resistance/grind going into 1st from a slow roll or stop, and you want to go to 1st:

1) Depress the clutch
2) Move the shifter to neutral, release the clutch
3) Depress the clutch and lightly blip the throttle as you move the shifter into 1st
4) Release the clutch

Lots of manual trannies need this technique to smoothly engage 1st gear, especially during a slow roll or when the tranny is under a little load like on a up/down grade.

Unfortunately this is inherent problem with the G and Z 6MT and one of the main reasons I passed on the 6MT. Nissan has had major issues with the Asisn made 6MT and the tranny/clutch/throw-out bearing is notorous for vibrations, rattles, notchiness, and whirring noises.

my tranny is perfect.. smooth as butter.. I honestly have never driven a nicer smoother 6 speed. Every shift I make is buttery smooth. Rev matching is a piece of cake, and I just couldn't be happier with my transmission; it's what usually makes anything else I don't like about the car worth it. Then again, my previous ride was a 93 5spd v6 toyota pickup...

280k on the odometer,
