Hi All,
My G35 is about due for its first oil change. I am going to change the oil myself, using Castrol GTX 10W-30 (for summer), and OEM Nissan Filter.
I understand that for the warranty to remain in effect, we have to change the oil per factory maintenance schedule in the owner's manual (very 3,750miles). And I am planning on my usual 3,000 miles oil change interval - oil is cheap compare to engine overhaul.
How does Infiniti know if I change my oil per recommendation, if I change the oil myself?
If I need to bring my car in for warranty work, will they say I didn't change the oil per recommendation, and the warranty is no longer valid?
Thanks,
Nelson

I think you still have to have it done at a certified shop for them to honor it or at least keep your receipts. But somehow you have to prove the work was done. I'm not certain on the subject though.

I called infiniti customer service on this very subject and the rep told me they would not void the warranty.
He did say however that you should keep a log and all receipts of work or parts purchased.
He also said in order to void your warranty on parts affected by non-changing of engine oil, they would actually tear your engine apart and look for evidence such as sludge build up, of course, your warranty would not be void for non-related parts (i.e, transmission).
Give them a call if you're still concerned: 800-662-6200

nah you don't have to have it done @ a shop. buy a log book and track the services you perform with receipts for oil/filter. should be good enough

Just keep receipts and a log book for records. Many do their own o/changes including me, and I've never been denied warranty.Originally Posted by nelam

For them to deny warranty, they'd have to prove misuse or lack of maintenance. For anyone working on your engine, it's obvious if it's been looked after or not.

Has always worked for me.

I've always changed my oil myself. I just keep my receipts and write it down in a log book. You can buy a log book from any parts store such as Kragen Auto Parts..
