if the engine is cold it will move even faster.

depending on the delay, you should have passed the rsx base

i dont know what to tell you

Re: very confused about the power of my sedan..

I'm in line with your comment.

Unfortunately, I do not believe my G35 Sedan is a fast car. Especially when compared to other vehicles I've owned with the same or less HP/Torque to weight ratio.

My G35S = 260HP/260ft/# Torque at 3400 pounds.
My old (returned to stock) 1998 Maxima SE 5-speed = 190HP/200?ft/# Torque at 3300 pounds.

Advantage G35S - 70HP & 60ft/# Torque.
Advantage Maxima - 100 pounds lighter.

The Maxima with 55,000 miles on it seems much stronger than my G under 3500 rpm. When it was set up with the CAI, Y-Pipe and performance exhaust, I believe I could have really worried or embarassed a G35 Sedan driver.

My G35's power delivery seems to change radically from time to time. The advantages of the proposed learning mode is still a mystery to me.

Has anyone actually run their G35 Sedan in the quarter mile. Dyno charts are good, actual runs are better.

In summary, I like my G35S but will continue to be weary of "average" performance vehicles.

My friend has an E500. He think that his car is faster than my G35s. I know that the E500 has more hps but it's also about 300 lbs heavier.

What do you think? Should i challenge him or not?

The RSX is only about 2600lbs with 160hp so it is still fairly quick. The Type-S is about on par with a G35.

If your frinds base RSX was keeping up with the BMW 330ci, then he has mods, possibly N2o.. don't be surprised he is keeping it a secret.....

Same with the Truck, it could of had a modded engine, even tho the outside look like crap... If you don't know what they got under the hood, don't be to bummed about losing races...

Keep in mind the BMW 330ci, G35 and RSX type S, all have similar performance numbers... so your friend might of had a RSX Type S and just removed the Type S stickers...

Well I can only guess that you don't drive it too aggresively and due to the "learning" transmission you probably lost some performance there...if you were really serious about it you should have used the manual shifter.

This car is much fster in manual mode. If oyu flor it in Auto and then did the same in manual I beleive you would see and feel a much better result.

Re: very confused about the power of my sedan..

Agreed about the manual versus automatic mode. In auto - I regularly get beat off the line even if I'm really trying by Accords, Camry's etc. I don't een know if they are really trying to push it. !st and second gears shift too soon in the auto mode without getting up to the optimum torgue rpms (I know this is not scientific just my perception). Then once you hit 3rd in auto there is a huge surge of power and i blowby everyybody. In manual, however, the car is considerably faster off the line. Just last night - very cold night here in Atlanta. I pushed it in manual from a light late at night. On a pretty decent incline I did 0-60 in 7 seconds - according to my girlfried who was keeping time.

Re: very confused about the power of my sedan..

I almost always drive in Manual mode...this way I don't need to stomp it all the way to the floor if I want passing power. I manually downshift and the power is immediately there. The auto trans is the weak link in the G35, IMO. His car just wasn't in the right gear when you hit it. In manual mode (or with the manual 6 speed), he'd have had a very different outcome.

thinhdle,
I wouldn't challenge him. Even though his car is 300 pounds heavier, it also has 309 hp and 339 lb/ft of torque.

You know what. I did and he did not want to try. May be he's afraid that if i win he'll look bad for spending 65k on his new car...

It was a good bluff.

Re: very confused about the power of my sedan..

I don't normally exceed posted speed limits, but on one ocassion since purchasing a G35 I was tempted to test it on straight-ways. The longest stretch encountered was US 75 which runs north and south, through Tulsa, Ok. I chose to go north away from the city's limit, and into the county. After a period of time at 65mph, I decided to unload and worked my way to 85mph. Within 30 seconds or so, I pushed it and reached 110mph, and topped out 118 before slowing down. Had I not been looking a my speedometer, I could have easily assumed that I was moving between 55mph and 70mph. I turned around and headed back (south) towards the city limits. As I exited an off ramp, in my rearview mirror I noticed a silver grey Mercedes exiting also. Paying little attention, I continued to a city street having stop lights, and I stopped. The SilvrGry Merced stopped, and the driver dropped his window, and I dropped the passenger window when I noticed he was attempting to get my attention. To end a long narrative, the driver asked me what kind of car was I driving, and what did I have under the hood. When I accelerated from 65mph, he was just exiting an off ramp behind me, and found that he couldn't catch up until I slowed down. The G35 will run.
