when i tested maxima, i hit 90 easily, then backed off quickly. salesman didn't say boo.

maxima is bigger, feels bigger. liked the handling of G better. also, i personally am not thrilled with the look of the maxima. it looks like a bloated altima.

The reason I'm considering a G35 instead of a Maxima is because the Maxima is wrong-wheel-drive.

The Maxima had all the whistles and bells. Some of which I figured would be more headaches than they are worth when they break. I opted for the performance and simplicity over luxury and trinkets.
Both cars are very nice and the decision depends on your needs.
Good luck.

FM chasis!!! Rear wheel drive. The FM chasis is alot better than the Maxima/Altima chasis. It is closer to a 50/50, and the handling is much better. Aerodynamics are better on the g35. G35 looks better. Plus, it says INFINITI, not NISSAN. he, he

I bought the G because of the rear wheel drive and the 6MT. If I wanted another front driver I would have bought an i35. The dealer ship was blowing out the i35s for 4k-5k under MSRP. Plus I think the i35 is much nicer than the Max.

1. no new Max yet when I bought my G
2, all reasons above
3. sorry looks of Max, completely out of style.

I did the same (test drove 04 Max 5AT and 03.5 G35 5AT). The Max was definitely roomier, but the G was so much better looking!!!!!! Plus, the Max add a ton of torque steer and the dealer wanted $32K (this was the first week the Max hit the showroom). Got my G for under $29K. If the FWD or RWD makes no difference to you, then you can't go wrong with either. But, the G is soooooooo much nicer looking!!!!

I was very disappointed by the interior of the Maxima (aesthetics). The same was true of the exterior. In the end, all I really liked was the power, which the G has anyway.

And what is UP with that mohawk-style window on the roof?

Re: G35 vs. '04 Maxima - why the G?

My previous car was a 2000 Maxima. It was a nice reliable car, with plenty of power. The thing that made me not want to go back to the Maxima was the FWD. I really didn't like the way the front of the car pulled over road irregularities when hard on the gas. While the torque steer was nowhere near as bad as some of the other FWD cars I've owned and driven, it was bad enough for me to rule out anything FWD this time around. The overall reliability of my Maxima makes me happy to be able to stay in the family.

As a fan of Nissan/Infiniti I considered both but the RWD is what swayed me to the G.I hate torque steer.BTW,I owned a 1998 and a 2000 Maxima and loved them both but no Maxima comes close to the G35.

Much nicer inside, better handling, looks on the G35 are alot more noticable. 04 Max looks like a nicer Altima. Nissan warrantee and service cant compare to Infiniti.

Re: G35 vs. '04 Maxima - why the G?

Replaced my 97 Maxima with a G because the Maximas went ugly on me. Then I discovered the G: looking at the price difference, the G gives so much more, plus it's more unique (especially in my area). And then there is the 'Infiniti' logo/service/rep, the great reviews, RWD, true sports sedan, etc. It's like getting what the Maxima always should have been.

Re: G35 vs. '04 Maxima - why the G?

I have a month left with my 01 Anniversary Edition Maxima 5spd. I've had it since November of 2000 and it is the most trouble free car I ever had. I Enjoyed the performance and had lots of fun. The car was pretty comfortable and held its own out on the road against many cars. Being an aggresive driver the major problem I had was the excessive wheel hop, torque steer (even w/ LSD) and handling. That's why I have a G on order. It seems to answer all my needs better (except for size & space). I did look at the new Max, but I was pretty sure I did not want a FWD car again. It does have many of the fetures I wanted, but this time around I wanted a true sports sedan. The Max is not as nimble and actually got slower for '04 vs. the '02-'03.

If you need the extra space, wan't extra features and don't mind sedan sacrificing some performance, then the Max is a fine choice. Otherwise if what you're looking for is a more serious sports sedan end even more power and speed (like me) sign on the dotted line at your nearest Infiniti dealer.

On Order:
"04 G35S 6MT Diamond Graphite, Full Aero, Navi, Sirius, Winter
Coming Mid October (Hopefully)
