why does the 05' G35x transmission shift faster than my 03 G35?

The G35X has a final drive ratio of 3.538 vs. the rwd 3.357. That may be why it "felt" livelier.

The newer G35s have the Transmission Control Module physically attached to the tranny, where the old G35s, 2003-2004 have it mounted in the passenger foot well. Directly grounding the TCM to the tranny makes it more responsive. Try adding Gordgee's 10 wire grounding kit. Most of us with it notice crisper shifts in the 5AT.

Good luck! I requested the same and paid $100 to have my 2003 tranny updated the the newer software. I did not notice a difference.
