NEED HELP QUICK!!
NEED HELP QUICK!!
I hate for this to be my first post, but I installed the 350z duct and Stillen air box. I then took the car on a hard drive for 15 miles or so and it just died?!?!! All the lights came on, but the engine wouldn't turn over. Any ideas? It only has 2500 miles on it! SH*@! Before I call roadside asst. should I take off the duct and the Stillen box? Thanks for the help!
Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
Looks like a prob with the Stillen air intake-- they've been stalling 6MTs like mad at high speed. What exactly is happening when you try to turn it over? Have you taken off the intake and tried again?

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
No I haven't taken it off yet, it just happend. When I turn the key it just won't fire up. Should I take it off and put the stock back on, or just take it off and try and start it? Will it always stall at high speeds or is there and easy correction for this?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
I'm sorry to hear that but I was having the same problem with my stillen intake on my 6mt sedan. My car died out everytime I was in neutral at high speeds, but it never died out during shifts which was a problem for some people. I emailed adam hume at stillen but did not get a reply. I was very disappointed and sold my intake.
P.S. If you still decide to take your car to the dealer...I would recommend that you take off the intake and the duct.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
Yes, take it off and try it, but if you're going to go to the dealership, don't yank them around: Tell them it's stalling out and be honest with them about the intake. It makes their job a LOT easier, and you'll get a more satisfactory (read: based on fact) answer. Not that I even believe you would do this, but as a side note, it never fails to amaze me how many people out-right lie to their dealer and then are MAD that they don't get a satisfactory answer... it's like the dealership has to solve an equation and the customer's hiding a variable from them. When the answer's not to their liking-- well, of course!
Now, if you uninstall the Stillen and STILL get this result, you really have something to talk about with your dealer... could be an Infiniti problem, but the odds aren't too heavy in your favor, unfortunately. There's a reason some thing's aren't under warranty-- the fault can't honestly be placed on the dealer
From what I've heard, Steve Millen is taking a lot of cash and churning out some problematic parts recently. I think the overall consensus is that the Stillen intake isn't great for the 6MT. You might want to research a little on here (search) and look around for some intake posts... I think it's been talked about quite a bit. Best of luck with all of this-

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
Sorry, I should have stated that this in on an 2004 AUTO. It still won't turn over and I just disconnected the battery. I was planning on letting it sit for 12 hours to let the ecu reset. Do you thing this will help? Or should I take another route? Thanks!!!
Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
I have the Z-Pipe and Stillen setup, but have the 5AT model. I have never had an issue with Stillen as an organization as I have not had any issues with their product. It is very sad to see Stillen not own up to the 6MT problems I have been seeing lately. It sounds like a serious safety issue that Stillen must look into. Take it off immediately and try and get your money back if you can't get the problem corrected. But before you take it off, make sure everything was put on correctly. Did you disconnect the battery before you uncoupled the MAS? Try an ECU reset as well to see if that corrects the problem. The problems associated with what you are experiencing seem to point to the MAS. Whatever you do, good luck to you. Hope this helps.

Good idea with the ECU reset-- I would definitely recommend that. I've not heard of problems with the 5AT and the Stillen intake, but then again I don't know of too many 5ATs WITH the Stillen intake, that could just be the problem. Unfortunately, Stillen is run by "nerds", or those with excellent technical backgrounds, but horrible customer service and business sense. What results is a group of people who will never admit they're wrong, and won't correct issues because they don't quite understand that a market share point defended is stronger than one earned. Eh... business. Best of luck, and keep us updated.

The Stillen intake can't prevent the engine from cranking over!
Something must have happend when you disconnected the MAF
connection. I vote for a ECU reset. This is troubleing
to hear problems with the Stillen intake. Mine has not
caused anything but ear to ear grins. Let us know what
the dealer says!

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
This is too funny. With the Stillen, Inc. axe grinding and knee jerk reactions to this post, you can just smell the panic in the air and see the vultures circling over Stillen's dead carcass! I have their box & a z-tube on my 6mt sedan and have not experienced one single problem to date. I'll grant you, I have never run the car to 140mph and thrown it into neutral, the pucker factor on that one is to much for me, but I have done it at 90 mph a few times to satisfy my initial curiosity without incidence. Seems to me that the problems experienced with the early Injen CAI's on 6mt sedans was inherent to it's own particular design, trying to draw in air at a low pressure location. The stock and Stillen boxes use a totally different design, and each draw ram-air from exactly the same stock location. Why WOULDN'T the Stillen box work as well as the stock box design, which many actually claim is already so good that it cannot readily be improved upon? Because they removed a resonator, or use a conical vs. panel K&N filter? I have read incidences where failing to fit the z-tube properly or tighten hose clamps caused MAFs to puke. But because the freakin' car won't even start - it MUST be the Stillen? Give it a rest. More likely, if it isn't user install error, there's a good chance its not even related IMO.
Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
I just tried to restart the car after a 17 hr. battery disconnect, then did the easy reset and even pulled the two fuses 15a and 10a. It still didn't start up. I was just on the phone with Bill (head manager) and someone from R&D from Stillen. They were both helpful, but said they haven't heard of this happening before. They wanted me to call them back after it gets to the dealership and tell them what the error code is after they look at it. I'll keep everyone posted on what happens at the dealership and with Stillen. Jason

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
I agree with dholly. How can you attribute this to Stillen.
I bet is has nothing to do with your Stillen HiFlow install.
Just put all the stock stuff back and go to the dealer.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
If you reread my post, you'll see I was talking about why Stillen might be unwilling to help, and why their reputation has been sinking. I don't think the fact that the car won't even crank should be attributed to the Stillen- most likely the install or an anomoly... he'd asked if stalling was a problem for the Stillen product, and it is: knowing a company is as important to me as knowing their products. No one can deny with a straight face that Stillen's gotten a mountain of negative customer feedback/professional reviews on everything from shipping, to quality, to post-purchase support.

So your engine won't even crank, let alone turn over? Do you just get dead silence? Ouch... Good luck, jason, keep us up to date.

Re: NEED HELP QUICK!!
Relax bro, it might not be the stillen and 350Z tube. It could be your ignition.
This happened to me after having my car for less than 5 months. One day I went to my car and it wouldn't even crank. Completely dead. Since I haden't used the car for a few days and I have a couple amps I figured maybe I drained the battery. Didn't really make total sense, but I figured it is possible. So I got my dads civic and tried to jump start it. It didn't work. Then I tried my sister 4runner, since I figured that maybe the civic didn't have enough juice to jump start the battery. Nope. I call the infiniti roadside assitance and had it towed to cerritos infiniti. They did some testing and found nothing. At the time there was some recall with some gas hose or something and so they took care of that...so I went to pick it up...not really happy cause I felt like that wouldn't fix it. Sure enough the next day, car wouldn't start. I was pissed. Towed it back a second time. They said it could be the keys...and reprogrammed them all...didn't work. They apperantly sent out an engineer from nissan/infiniti since they couldn't figure it out. It turned out to be a bad ignition connection. The car can't start if current is not flowing and sending the signal. Anyway, they replaced the entire ignition and after a couple of days it was fixed. I haven't had a problem since. Everything was covered under warranty. By the way, at the time my car was completely stock. Now I have the stillen air box and 350z tube with no problems. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
