Steering issues

After changing my wheels to 19x8 and tires to 245/40/19, I have been noticing an increased sensitivity to the steering and handling of the vehicle. The car seems to react more to the uneveness of the road to the point that I feel that I have to exert a little more effort in keeping the car from veering. Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal or to be expected when switching to tires with a much lower sidewall height? Should I have done a wheel alignment?

Fat tires = more steering effort.

But a new alignment won't hurt.
