New Way To Power Launch

Found out how to power launch without having to throttle brake your G. Throw the gear in neutral and rev to 3000RPM. Keep there and throw it in drive and you will launch pretty hard. I did this twice and seems to be ok. The only drawback is the time lag between neutral and drive (very minimal). This has to be easier on your tranny and brakes than throttle braking. Let me know pros and cons. If this is bad on the torque converter, then I won't continue to launch like this.

Wow you’re really brave doing that, I’ve heard that could really F-up your AT.

That is why I am posting it here to see if I am causing damage. Should not since only an electronic signal is sent for a shift from Neutral to 1st. I would think powerbraking is far worse.

mbarrad, what you're doing is called a "neutral slam". Do it a few more times and you'll replace driveline parts like torque converter, flex plate, u joints, etc. The driveline shock will destroy parts quickly. Brake torquing is not a problem since no driveline shock-just don't hold it long.

Re: New Way To Power Launch

that is a very bad thing, you have to "brake flash" this thing for lack of a better phrase to get the best launch.

like the torque brake, you hold the brake pedal down and then tap and release the gas pedal to get you up to around 1500 rpm (doesn't have to be exact), then quickly hit the gas again (about 2/3 to 3/4 throttle) before revs drop to idle and let off the brake jsut after you see revs coming up.. Try it I think you will like it.

Re: New Way To Power Launch

Why does that work better than holding it at a higher rpm?

Re: New Way To Power Launch

It is more consistent (without an upgraded torque converter) on the vq engine and ecu. for some reason the tranny/engine seem to work less and you get much less tire spin. i don't know why, but try it. it is kinda like a cross between a dragstrip launch and a street launch.

Oh man I loved doing this to my old mustang, that was until I had to replace the transmission.

Re: New Way To Power Launch

Wow...That's a really bad thing to do to your G...Like jcv said, neutral slamming is a great way to put your G in the shop and spend money replacing parts...Brake torqueing is much better...Or just do what I've learned to do if you want to race someone- make sure it's on the highway, rev match, and go from there...Lot less damage...But racing is bad...Bad, bad, bad street racer...Go to your room!
