5AT G35 1/4 Mi Time :-)

Well, I finally ran some respectful times, and all it took was a 30 degree drop in temps to do it...lol. I went to NE Dragway last night and it was 51-53 F out all night and perfect for racing.

As some of you knew, and cared about, I was trying to get close to my Wife's Car which I was able to rip off 14.6's and one low 14.5 (almost a 14.4 and it was 85+ F out that day),and I finally did it last night.

I ran 5 times, won five times and ran a best time of 14.66 at 94+. This was done with the car in 4, VDC off, and a launch at idle.

My runs were as follows:

2.272 60' - 14.66 @ 94.33 (in 4, beat a Formula Firebird)
2.288 60' - 14.74 @ 95.68 (Manual shifted, beat a 4.6 Mustang GT)
2.313 60' - 14.79 @ 94.13 (in 4, beat a Riced up V6 Accord)
2.315 60' - 14.78 @ 94.05 (in 4, beat a Durango RT 5.9)
2.252 60' - 14.66 @ 94.28 (in 4, beat a riced up Focus SVT)

I started the night with 40 psi up front and 35 out back...when I noticed my 60' times going the wrong way, I set the rears back to 35 psi, and tadah...another 14.66...I had promised the wife I would be home for 9 for a later dinner so I took off after the 5 runs...maybe, just maybe, if I had gone down to 34 psi out back...I would have hit the 14.5 zone...

Conclusion...My wife's 02 Maxima SE is faster in the 1/4 Period. I pulled all 2.1 60' times and her car never looks back. All of my trap speeds are slower than her car unless I manually shift the G35 which nets speeds of almost 96 mph, but with sh*t 60' and 1/4 mi times...so I will settle for the lower mph and getting there a tenth faster.

I tried using my toggle switch to disable the brake lights and VDC/TCS completely, but with the sticky track surface I couldn't even get the rear wheels to break loose giving me that much sought after hard launch the 5ATs just won't do, so if this car could launch like a 6 spd it would run with a 6 spd the whole way...but it can't so that's that. My wife takes sollace in knowing her car is at least faster for the first 1320', but we both know that after that it's bubye Maxima! lol

Nice times! If you can lower your 60' you definetely will run faster. What does your wife's car weigh? If you couldn't break the tires loose on the launch pad no need in lowering the psi.

Thanks for sharing, man. Good post. Now get your SHO out there and see how it's holding up!

GeoBau,

How'd you know I had a SHO...HAD that is. It was a 94 ATX that ran 14.9 in the 1/4. Fasted Naturally aspirated Auto around. Still on SHOtimes website I believe.

Bobby D,

I hear ya on the tire PSI vs no spinning, but I noticed the 60' times going up and when I checked the rear psi, as I had said, they had gone from 35 to 36 psi...nothing else was different and when I lowered them back to 35...14.66 again...it makes no sese, but hey who knows.

The Maximas weigh about 135 lbs less than our G35s FYI.

How much faster do you think you would be if you had the 6MT?

Bosssho, you're getting better. One thing I noticed is that you show to have 245-45 tires. Just my two cents but this is pushing it for the AT G if you plan on drags.

I had a 97 M3 5MT that came with 245-40 out back and it was more than it needed. This maybe what's hurting your time. Better choice might have been 235-50 (same dia) or even 225-50 (1% less).
Even better yet would be 235-40 that are smaller diameter and effectively give you better handling and a higher rear end ratio (more effective torque). You can probably get the dealer to adjust speedo correction with consult II.

mrman_3k,

If the Magazines can run 14.1-14.2 @ 99-103 mph I could at least equal those times. Out here at New England Dragway it's as close to sea level as you get so it's a nice track to run at. The surface could be better, but hey, you can't have it all right. ;-)

jcv,

You are correct. I still have the stock 215/60 17s or what ever they are and they weigh 9lbs less per rim/tire so I could have run those for sure...I may, if motivated and it's another awesome cool night up, throw those tires on and go back up one more time...Maybe 14.5s at that point and then my wife's car will only have 100ths to brag with...he he.

Re: 5AT G35 1/4 Mi Time :-)

too bad you don't know someone with rims (Mustang?) that have 235-40 or 225-40! Poor man's quick gear change-take your 3.38 to 3.63.

Bosssho, drop resistor shift mod is pictured here:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....7&page=2&pp=30

don't know if this will work with a G AT?

JCV,

You should start a post to ask this board if they know anything about this MOD?

My 87 GT still has the 4 lug rims...Discs all around, but no way will it match up to the G...and our 02 SE has 225/55 17s on it too so no luck there either.
