what do you mean? you have to be more specific, you mean the actual ashtray insert or the piece of the the center console in front of the entire ashtray assembly?

If you are just asking how to take out the interior ashtray insert that you use to empty your ash you are seriously in need of a kick in the head.

i mean the entire ash tray assembly - not the insert - i want to paint the front of it

Socal_G_sedan - do u mean with the ash tray in its open position, just simply pull it straight up and out of it's socket????

i do believe you are right in what i am looking to remove when you refer to the piece of the center console in front of the entire ashtray assembly - i basically want to paint the face of the ash tray so i need to remove it obviously....

have you ever heard of painters tape? you gotta pull the whole center console piece and tape off what you don't want to paint. That's how I did mine

Here's a pic of my center console and clock finisher, painted Desert Platinum to match the exterior color.

what you did is exactly what i am looking to do - u did a great job!!!

how did you prep the center console to ensure the paint didn't crater or dewet (and to ensure great adhesion?)?

i took the center console off before (to add felt tape to eliminate rattles) but i guess i forgot that the ash tray assembly comes off with it?? (basically one peice?)

thanks

clock finisher is easy, basically just pull up.

ashtray comes out with the center console piece around the transmission.

I prepped it with some stuff my friend had for general paint prep

nice job bro, looks just like mine

taking out the dash/console finisher around the stereo is the hardest part to remove very involved, here is a guide that will show you how to do it. the guide is actually for hardwiring an ipod but just use the parts that are relevant to removing the dash finisher. It seems like a lot of work but it's not that bad.

I also painted the rear center console piece under the arm rest. For that one you just open the arm rest, remove the plastic air vent cover and then unscrew the arm rest from the rest of the console. Then just pull up on both sides of the plastic console piece just like in the one you already painted.

good luck feel free to ask any questions.

bigsash,
did u attach the guide to remove center console around radio/climate controls??- i didn't see it in your last reply...

also, about the clock finisher, when u say just pull up, u mean grab it and then pull straight up? - do i have to disconnect any wiring after pulling up??

i have a friend who installed a flat dash kit that contains a peice that covers the clock finsiher and it looks good but i noticed that it causes a reflection of itself (it's an OEM aluminum flat dash kit) on the front window which i am thinking may bother me when i drive - do you have this issue after painting your the clock finisher??

Thanks
