Sooo I just got awesome MPG!
Hey all,
Just a little glimmer of hope for ya.....
I drove from Atlanta to Roanoke, VA yesterday in my 03.5 5at sedan. After the first 270 or so miles, I was sitting at a half tank and my girlfriend needed gas for her QX4 so I went ahead and topped off. I popped out the celly and did the math and guess what 30.11 MPG!!!!!!! I was completely stoked! I had about 5-600lb of cargo if you count me, was running half 89 and half 93 octane, and averaged around 70mph (gf had to go slow, she had my 275/35/19's on the roof of her suv hahahah) The only mod I have is a JWT pop-charger and Z-tube. I also ran the A/c the WHOLE TIME at 72 on the lowest fan setting!
Keep your foot out of it unless passing and it works!

I've been getting some great highway mpgs too. With my wife, 19 month old son, and about 150lbs of gear in the trunk, I averaged a crack over 29mpgs from Atlanta to St. Augustine, FL. On the way back I average a bit over 28mpgs. I was averaging just under 80mph, A/C on, and in MM 5. I use MM5 instead of drive because it allows me to pass using a good bit of throttle without the auto downshifting. On my trip from Kansas City to Atlanta I saw 27.5mpg. I have no complaints about the mpgs.
Just drove from my home (Woodsboro, near Corpus Christi) to Concan and back. Had 401.5 miles on the tank and the light had NOT come on yet. 24.5 MPG and here is the kicker, I drove 75-85 most of the way (AC on! it was 99 deg!) with a sprint from Sabinal to Concan at a 90-100!
I have only the Z-tube, the K&N is drying out after a wash.

Averaged over 28 driving from Corpus Christi, TX, to Whidbey Island, WA - a little over 3000 miles including some fairly steep mountain ranges.
OP - change your MPG color. The light green is VERY difficult to read.

HAH! I made a thread a while back, driving from Florida to Jersey, 18 hour drive, I averaged a 27 MPG. This car on the highway, with cruise control, and that amazing 6th gear, is outstanding on gas.

BTW, its the driver and not the mods. When I cruise at a lower speed my mileage does go up a bit, but when I am driving more than around town they are normally 3-4 hour drives. I have never yet used cruise control, and am going quite a bit over 80 (FL highways kick azz). Not the best for the mpg, but much better on the clock.
I got 26 mpg on the highway from here to Dallas, TX. About 320 miles that tank before I filled up early. This was driving 75-80 with my foot, not cruise control. AC and about 600lb of stuff in the trunk and rear seat. About 40 miles of that was Austin and Dallas traffic.
I got 22 on the way back same type of driving. Only difference was I used the cruise control.
Cruise control actually gets you worse gas mileage than without it. It's trying to keep that speed steady so it gives more gas where you shouldn't on hills, and takes off on down hills which is good.

C.
I have 3500 miles on my car.
I'm averaging around 22mpg on a 60/40 (highway/city) driving schedule.
I did notice, however, that after the first oil change, my mpg went up 2-4 mpg (
).
