The "Swap"

A co-worker picked up a sweet 2006 coupe 6mt about a month and a half ago at Infinity of Denville on route 10 here in NJ. Last night, we swapped cars for the first time, he took my 03.5 sedan 6mt down to hoboken as I followed him in his ride. As we met up after parking the cars, we both had a confused look on our faces. He spoke first and took the word right out of my mouth... "Um... I think your G is faster than my new car!" Strange, as I was thinking the same thing the entire ride. I know this is just the "butt test", but is it possible that my "humble" 260hp actually is quicker than his new 298hp coupe? I always knew these early 6mt sedans were quick... but it was noticable to both of us.

I have always said that the 260hp engine was underrated and the 298 was overrated. Not to the point that the 260 is faster but much closer than the numbers would lead you to believe.

I tend to agree with you. As absoluteg pointed out, my engine does have 55k on it... but it shouldn't make that much of a difference. This engine has a ton of pull for 260hp/tq. Maybe I just got one of those "freak" G's

+1, I have pulled on at least 3 6mt 05+ G35 coupes on the freeway from 60-130. There isn't much driving skills envolved on the freeway. But again my car is abnormally faster than other G35s i have driven, and other people tell me that also.

I agree, this could be part of it. My 05' MT6 sedan pulls harder now that it has 30K+ on it.

You have very different engine with a broader mid-range. Since his is a revup, he has to beat it up to get the most out of it. On the freeway, if he revs to his redline consistently, I think he will steadily pull. Tell him to get the mrev2 with the spacer and his car will be noticeably faster. I believe the rev-up has more potential NA.

Wrong...

I know a number of people that like the sedan better. I for one think the coupe looks better but saying "no one" is just rude.

2 doors are not my taste - Sedan looks good for a Sedan

anyways. I have pulled on pre-05 coupes before, and took a 06 6mt sedan until high in third gear (than he took be by less than a fender...hehe a headlight) I never had a chance to go with anything else.

I have a 05x and run it in RWD mode. I am beginning to think that with the transfer case disabled, the car runs quicker. I will dyno it in both modes one day.

I had a 350z and now the g35 sedan. I like the sedan a lot more because of the room and luxury. It feels faster than my 350z did.

There is a guy at my work with an 04 350Z. Back when my car was stock we did a couple quick races. His car was a little faster than mine. They do weigh less than ours.
