Decoding VIN numbers: HELP!

I honestly hate the search feature here, I can never find anything I'm looking for. I tried Google with no luck either.

Does anyone know how to decode the VIN number for the G35?

Basically, I just need to know when the car was made. Since it is a 2003, I need to know whether it will have the doggy-door trunk or not.

Thanks in advance.

If this was for my own car, I would just look at the trunk and see if there's a doggy door or not...

My friend is going to an auction and has no way of seeing the cars before he gets there. He only has their VINs to check their history. Carfax doesn't say when they were manufactured.

So nobody knows anything about VINs ?

It actually told me things I figured out myself. Just by looking at 3 VINs from 2003 G35's, I was about to tell which number represented year.

I gotta find out which number represents when it was built, a month I guess.

Bah, I'll just tell him to take his chances and go to the auction.

Thanks guys.

If he could get it for a good enough deal it should not matter. He could always get a newer trunk lid from a junk yard.

Thanks for that link.

I'm guessing the serial number of the car should tell when it was made... does anyone know after which number the cars are 2003.5 ?
