Re: Top Speed in the G?

I love that this car is so freaking fast. I've done 143/145mph in my 6 speed. What I truly love is that at 145mph you can pull out the camera to take a picture of the dash display and live to tell the tale.

Nice pic of the instrument cluster. I haven't had a chance to open up the G yet. I don't think I have taken it over 100 yet. there are just a few back roads in the bay area where you can really open it up.

Still looking for those open Bay Area backroads. Bear Creek Road? Camino Tassajara near Blackhawk? Any other?

Re: Top Speed in the G?

The best road I have found is Highway 25 south of Hollister. there are a couple of straight stretches that a pretty wide open. Thats where I was able to top out my SHO

Re: Top Speed in the G?

That's exactly what mine did...145 mph...got there pretty easy, but you can tell the ECU cuts off any more for us 5AT people.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

I brought my 6MT sedan up to 125 or so and hit a dip in a straight stretch of highway. There was enough torque in 6th at that speed to cause the wheels to spin slightly as traction was reduced through the dip. The car never wavered; just pushed harder.

Stuff's going by way too fast at that speed for me, but the car felt like it'd do 160 easy.

-------------------------

I-580 just after the 580/205 split heading east. That portion of 580 actually heads south before it merges with I-5. I've hit 120+ mph a couple of times in my S2000 and Jetta on that stretch of road. Traffic isn't very heavy except during commute hours and it's not frequented by CHP much. The biggest problem are the crosswinds that come down the adjacent hills.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

I have taken mine about 120 but I've only had it a couple weeks. I'm heading out through the mojave desert in a few weeks where there's no cars or traffic for miles and miles. We'll see what happens.

I've been 140 on my bike and it felt much more solid than in a car surprisingly.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Does anyone know how accurate the digital speedo on the Z is and if we can get something like that.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

That's not true. Civillian GPS is not 100% accurate. One of those 5th wheel measuring devices the car magazines use would yield better results. Not very practical, though.

The digital speedometer is probably no more or less accurate than our analog speedometers. Our gauges aren't traditional analog gauges anyway.. they're just analog display devices showing the numbers that the engine computer tells them to display.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Nice pic! I hope your eyes were on the road and not on the spedometer or the camera, at those speeds..

Re: Top Speed in the G?

I lucked out because i just pointed it and shot it, I took two , but the first one came out overexposed, this one came out decent.
After slowing down from those speeds thing do become a lot slower at normal speeds, driving 70 felt like 45 or 50.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

That's a phenomena known as "velocitation." After driving on the freeway at 65-70 for a long time, slowing down to 45 feels like crawling. When travelling long distances, you have to force yourself to be extra-alert when you go through those small towns with reduced speeds.
