Re: Top Speed in the G?

142 mph. it is goverend to 156 but with an ECU upgrade it should go a lot faster. Some guy on my350Z.com calculated the theroretical top speed at 174-176 mph. its hard to say because air resistence at those speed make a world of a difference. A tail wind of 20 mph at 150 mph wold help dermaticaly. so who know i guess we need sombody to find out. any one out there with a techno square ECU who is willing to face possibal jail time.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Hey Carlos

I'm that guy!

Just like I said on the my350Z forums, I hit 156 before the ECU upgrade. High 160's should be doable NOW by all means, if not 170+ (givent aht ECU upgrade also gives you a lot of TOP END power, which will help overcome the wind resistancew forces better than the non-ECU g's.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

It doesn't give you that much of a power boost.. and the required power to overcome air resistance is exponential compared to the speed.. by a power of 2 or 3. Luckily, the G has a very low coefficient of drag.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

cool, thanks

Yeah, at 156, my ar felt pretty solid. Except of course when you try braking, gotta do it real slow. But it was solid as hell!!!!!!!!! seriously.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Ok, here's the one formula I remember from my fluids engineering class: Air drag force = 0.5*rho*V^2*Cd*Af, where rho = density of air, Cd = coeff of drag for the car, Af = frontal area of the car, and V = speed of the car. So, the drag force increases exponentially by a power of 2 as the speed goes up. E.g., double the speed, and the drag force increases by 4 times. That's why top speed capabilities are heavily dependent on the size and shape of the car--lower Cd (sleeker design) or Af (shorter/narrower car), and your drag force will decrease (for a given speed).

Note: that's the first time I've used that since graduating 3 yrs ago.

0.27, eh? Mine's 0.26 w/ the Aero Package. The zero-rear-lift comes in handy at triple-digit speed, as well.

Not that I make much use of it, of course!

This is what my 5 speed automatic did, it kept climbing and just stopped right about there, 145 MPH. the same sensation as the resume button on a cruise control. It handled very well! it just settles and feels smooth as silk.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Thats preety damn fast. I wonder if you were to use the Manual shift mode, if you would be able to hit 155.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

He may have been going 150 already... we don't know how accurate the speedometer is at that speed.

Manual mode would make no difference.. 5th gear is 5th gear.

Re: Top Speed in the G?

Oh it was while I was racing a camaro Z28 early 90's. After 120 he just gave up b/c I was at least three car lenghts ahead. So I just decided to keep going faster just to see how fast I can get it. Had to back off b/c of traffic up ahead. But the brakes never faded and were strong all the way back down to 60mph. Very nice brakes we have here.
