This has been pissing me off for months now and im gona go bananaz!!

Few months ago i was going 35-40 mph and some kid with a death wish runs across my path. I did a panic break and Jees are our cars good with panic brakes and kid wasn't road kill. Anyway thats not the problem.

ever since then my center console, the gear console hasn't been the same. its making cracking noises everytime i brake. whether its mildly or red light sorta hard. it would crack like two peice of wood rubbying stiffly against one another. Took it to dealer and they heard it and took it apart for 2days. they couldn't figure out whats wrong with it and why its making cracking noises when i brake.

anyone out there with this problem? before the incident my car brakes quietly without any complaints. it seems that the panic brake loosen up something(s)

Help plz its driving me crazy and making me angry driving the car i love so much.

 

mine does the same thing and it annoys me too. I didn't say anything to the dealer about it, because I figured he would blame the stereo shop that had taken it apart to hook up my Ipod. Maybe I will now that I know it is not just me. Let me know if you get it figured out.

Everytime i push down on the gear console and brake whether its hard or mild but if i push down on the console and brake it doesn't make the cracking noise. So its definately something is loose inside the console.

i used to have this problem but after i read the post from daveB for fixing rattles in the center console, this problem is gone now...
i am not sure how to attach a link to daveB's fix but i think it's easy to find with the search feature on this web site.

basically, u need to remove the center console and then add felt to many areas where plastic meets plastic...
daveB's fix was great - i followed his procedure and as i said, the noises from my center console are gone!!!

now i just have to figure out how to stop the other noises from other areas.....

are there any different steps in the console removal of on 06 (the diy is for an 03)?

 

I had the same noises, took it to the dealer and they applied felt under the shifter finisher and no more creaking. I would try another dealer if I were you. Dealers know this is a problem and have procedures to fix it.

 

I THINK i self fixed it. i know its frown apond and i swear ill never do it again but as i was driving to class the other day i got really **** off at the constant cracking when i brake so i slapped her a few times. Mildly hard on the sides of the console where the left and right inner air vent was. close fist slap left and right and then at the next red light it seemed to stop cracking. Its been 2 days now and havnt heard any cracks yet when braking. sometime small cracking noises would pop up but not constantly like before. CHeck for possible navi damages during the rage but everything was fine and noise was gone. I Gave her a long wash and detail spray last night to buy back redemption.

 

I guess she just needed a little spanking.

 

my console has been physically cracking on the curved edges due to heat build up in the car on a hot day.

Has anyone else had this happen? The dealerships thinks I screwed it up but it's only happend to me on hot summer days.
